Re: The Newest Video Game Thread
Still waiting on my PS4, should get it in 2 months... As a PC gamer, i missed on all best games last year it seems. My biggest disappointment this year beside NBA 2k19 (which is unplaybly bad in my opinion) was monster hunter world. I waited that game for months but it didn't impress me at all. People often complain how some game controls like crap on keyboard and mouse, but as a pure PC gamer I never had this problem. Monster Hunter world is first game where I felt like wow, this controls like crap on keyboard. To a point I tried controller, but man, I never ever played modern games with controller (excluding sports games), I am so terrible with it. it will take some huge growing pains getting used to when I get my PS4.
Upcoming games I am most exited about is still Cyberpunk and Ghosts of Tsushima.

Generally I watch them, I'm a sucker for story.
Well I have been thinking about it for a while and didn't want to bother but eff it, I'm going to get back into college Hoops 2K8 for a while. Game was so damn good and its tragic that we never got another. NCAA is out of their minds for stopping these games. Problem is I have to bust out my old XBox 360 and hook that back up, don't really want another console sitting around but oh well, I've been having the urge to build a college dynasty for a while now.

Re: The Newest Video Game Thread
Man college hoops is fun and addicting. I don't even play it, I just love making a coach, building my coach up, taking over a program and playing the coach carousel. Usually I try to get the U of M as soon as possible but this time I am trying to bring a small team up and make them a power house.
I'm at UC Davis and I am slowly building them up. My current recruiting class is going to have TWO FIVE star recruits including the 13th best play in the country. Got really lucky here plus recruited him since he was a HS Soph. He's also Mr. Basketball for Montana so I am getting some huge points for nabbing him.
I have also had two player make the NBA, one was a total surprise and he went in his JR year. I really love the presentation they put in this game. I actually watch the selection Sunday show and its fun going through the suspense of seeing if your team made it or not. Its also cool to see your assistant coaches move on to get their own teams and such.
The mode is so much more fun than building a franchise in NBA. There is a lot of variance and ups and downs. If 2K ever gets to make another one of these I hope they take all the notes and cues from their last game and add them. I would get that game in a heartbeat and play it like crazy.

aren't they unable to make new games because the NCAA and EA Sports were profiting off players' likeness? You won't be seeing a new NCAA game until athletes are paid

Re: The Newest Video Game Thread
The College Hoops series was canned far before that lawsuit derailed the NCAA Football series. The simple answer is college players don't have to be paid as the game could ship with random rosters and only need to license schools/conferences. The hangup for that they aren't able to get a blanket license for the entirety of the NCAA anymore and need to license all the teams and conferences individually. The hope remains that it will get figured out as they have utilized some licensing for some schools in the past few NBA 2k games inside the MyCareer modeMPLSwolves wrote:Calinks wrote:Man college hoops is fun and addicting. Re: The Newest Video Game Thread
Yea I dont know the details but there was def an issue with using player likenesses and stuff. College Hoops was notorious because everyone looked a lot like their players. On top of that, they for sure had their same stats, numbers, etc. Then with 2K8 you could edit and share data so you could just download all the real names and they would say them in all the audio too.
I just think the NCAA needs to ease up and let the games be made again. Hell, I think it would be cool if the NCAA took some of the money they get from the games and fed it back to the players. The games alone could put some money is players pockets but they know they wont do that.
I'm not even very into college basketball at all but if the announced College Hoops 2K20 and it was like 2K8 just modern and super polished, I would sacrifice NBA 2K20 in a heartbeat. College stuff is just too fun. Also imagine them both being out and college having a my career that you could carry over into NBA 2K.
I even miss the feature of sending your draft classes to NBA 2K that was fun too. Once I created "KG's little brother." Had him at the U of M then sent him to the NBA draft and drafted him to the wolves in NBA 2K. Now they just need to make NBA 2K: Front Office and I could import the retired KG sibling into that and make him a coach or GM. Then in NBA 2K: Media I will import him there after he gets fired from his front office job so he can be an analyst on tv.

Re: The Newest Video Game Thread
Been doing nothing but recruiting, adjusting, and simming/watching games. Finally managed to get a team to win it all at my starting school UC Davis

I let the cpu run all the NCAA tournament runs, in cpu vs cpu I only simmed some first rounds if we were a massive favorite.
Funny thing is, I didn't expect this season to be very good. I lost all my top guys a couple seasons back and couldn't recruit any big name players. Just got a lot of quality 3 stars and a couple of 4's really blew up. Found a really good system that fit my team and they were dominating most f their opponents. We basically play like a modern NBA team and jack a ton of threes. In the sweet 16 game my team got up on their opponent 33-8 lol.
I have seen several of my assistant coaches move on and take on bigger programs than mine. DAvid Adelman, one of my earlier assistant coaches (yea I named him that cause he looked a lot like DAvid Adelman to me) got two coaching promotions in this time frame.
I have turned UC Davis into a perennial NCAA tournament contender and its by far and away the best school in the Big West. I pretty much have to schedule a ridiculous strong schedule to get respect because all the teams in conference are powder cakes.
Now that I have achieved my goal I can move on to the Gophers whenever that job gets freed up.

I’ve been house hunting around the cities, was wondering if anybody knew neighborhoods that have Fiber internet. I figure if anyone knows about fiber it would be in this thread. Does anyone here have fiber internet outside of the cities?

Re: The Newest Video Game Thread
In 2k18 MyCareer, I found I personally play my best at either PF or C. Don't know why it took me until my third time to try a big man on 2k19.
Did something a little different this time though. Normally I try to bulk my guys up and make them at least average body size, something semi-realistic. This time though, I made the PF version of Wiggins physically. He's 7'0" and I think I put him at 210 lbs. Hadn't realized how much of a difference body mass makes in quickness. This guy is much more agile than I'm used to.
Normally, my improvement is pretty gradual before I start clowning folks, but this time the clowning started from the first game in China and has continued in Ft Wayne. It's gonna be fun to pair him next to KAT. Not a floor spacer, but does everything else decent.

Never thought about going skinny. I always try to be fast and athletic because you can pretty much dominated by being a rebounder, defender, and faster than other bigs so easy under the basket buckets. I struggled to start 2K19 and didn't get good for a long while.
In my College Hoops game, I have gone crazy siming and recruiting. I found out the career ends after 40 seasons and the goal was always to eventually go to the Gophers after I made UC Davis a perennial contender. Well after 30 seasons I won another national title and just so happens that the Gophers coach retired so I get to spend the last 10 seasons reforming them.
Whats fun about it all this time is that I get to see how UC Davis fares in the next decade without me. I got so good at recruiting and messing around with the team because we never got the easy recruits or big market respect no matter how good I did. Still in that time I was able to recruit really good 3 stars 4 stars and some 5's. I sent like 30 players to the NBA which is crazy for UC Davis.
Year one on the gophers and its another world. I have 5 star recruits listing me as the top destination and I got some four stars nearly beginning me for scholarships. A lot different from the grind of UC. Somehow I got to sign the two top players in the country in the first signing period. Don't think I have ever done that before even when the game came out and I used to play it alot.
Also I have renamed a lot of my assistant coaches and have been keeping up with their careers. David Adelman was the first to get his own team and it was slightly bigger than UC Davis but over the years he has been stuck coaching teams like that. Tolliver was my top assistant, he got a job at a small school, did really well, two years later, he got a mid major. Then he got Arizona state which is a power house in the 2020's. I have had several NCAA matchups with Tolliver and that was pretty fun to see. He wont the title too one year. Really cool to see one of your assistants become one of the best coaches around.

Re: The Newest Video Game Thread
I have the 07 Wolves sitting at 6-10 in my post KG MyLeague. The best player on the team is unquestionably Al Jefferson, he's so consistent down on the block and it's great to be able to dump it into the post when you really need a bucket.
Sebastian Telfair has been a disappointment at PG and Randy Foye has taken his starting job. Corey Brewer has emerged as a semi point forward, playing like Ben Simmons lite offensively while playing great defense. With Brewer doing so well handling the ball it made Foye able to play more is a SG role that he is better suited for despite being a PG in size and position.
I just made a trade for Adam Morrison to play PF and give some extra offensive punch. Antoine Walker has been effective in the stretch 4 role off the bench, but he's being worn down by the 26-28 minutes a game I was giving him and Mark Madsen was getting super fatigued with the 20 or so minutes he got so I needed some young legs.
I don't expect that we will make the playoffs, but we also shouldn't be nearly as bad as the actual 07 Timberwolves were, which will take me out of the running for the Derrick Rose sweepstakes barring a miracle in the draft lottery.

I've hit the 20 game mark of the season and thought it would be interesting to do a comparison player by player to their real life counterparts. This is what it looks like.

Latest installment in my Post KG MyLeague details some potential trade targets as I near the trade deadline with the 2nd worst record in the league and fully in the mix in the Derrick Rose draft sweepstakes.

That's probably pretty fun. May have to try that sometime. I have still been running college Hoops 2K8 pretty much daily simming seasons. Started a new Legacy and after 14 years with the Gophers I just coached them to their 4th championship. Been in the title game 4-7 seasons.

That said I'm probably playing fewer games down the stretch of this season than I did early as I'm super pumped about the off season
