I'll have to admit, I don't understand the whole big deal about championship experience. How is he going to help us out with experience while towel waving?

I like the move because I think he might have something in the tank still for one last playoff run. And he's big and can shoot the three.

When they hit the playoffs, there is a lot of downtime between games. Shoot-arounds, practices, bus rides and plane flights. Pau will be stretched out and regaling the younger guys with stories about tough spots during the Finals or International play. He's a HOF player. This move feels important.

And he gave up a net of $2 million dollars to do it.

Also good to have insurance in case Brook Lopez gets hurt.

RoLo likely wanted more minutes than what we were offering, and he didn't have championship experience, so this seems like a solid lockerroom move too.

RoLo also wasn't available.

Gasol gives the Bucks additional options in the playoffs. He can provide a spurt of instant offense, especially against opposing second units.

His mere presence on the roster gives opponents something else to plan against.

The big issue is how the Bucks can hide him on defense, because his lack of defense can be alarming. I don't think he can defend Embiid, for example.

I think that much of the Bucks regular season success has been due to their ability to play starters who are less fatigued than their counterparts in the fourth quarter. To do that, they have relied on their bench. Gasol might help just a bit on that regard.

Gasol is like the Kurt Thomas signing. Crafty vet that has lost a couple of steps but knows how to do the little things to win.

Plus the Bucks have a mandate from the league to have at least one brother from all the brother tandems in the league. Plumlees, Zellers, Lopezes, and now Gasols. Next up one of the Morris'.

He may actually want to be a doctor. He has a year of med school under his belt (dropped out to pursue basketball full-time) and earlier this decade, at least still had a strong interest in medicine. He may have given up the dream at this point, but maybe he could shadow Suki.

Has Pau officially signed with the Bucks? They had to get him in the roster by 4PM last night for him to be playoff eligible, but he doesn't clear waivers until tomorrow afternoon.

Edit: PP corrected me - he just needed to be waived by last night to be eligible.

I think you may be off on that rule. The pertinent one was that he needed to be waived by midnight last night to be eligible to play in the playoffs with another team.

Ah, I think you're right, my bad. I read that wrong.

Same situation as Warriors. Spurs are even the 7 seed right now in the West. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about the implications, but it seems weird.

Best part of pau is he relishes the villain role. He will do all the super annoying/dirty things to draw the ire of opposing players/fans/refs allowing Giannis to just do giannis, and perhaps even benefit from make up calls.

Worth it just for this.

Certainly could see him having a Kurt Thomas kind of veteran impact too.

I can't stand the way he tastes playing basketball myself.

Yep. HOF player but in my top three of active players I couldn't stand the Bucks to play against. Grunt, whine, pout, shriek. All of it it.

I know. It's going to take me some time to flip the switch and root for someone I used to love to hate.
