Re: Season Speculation, Free Agency & Trade Ideas: Our Johnson is finally working
I am also underwhelmed by the prospect of paying a market contract to Terry Rozier. Give me more De'Anthony Melton at a cool $1 million please.
There simply must be a cool vet willing and capable of leading the group we're building, at least for the time being, while we hold auditions for PG of the Future (there, Melton is a contender). Terry ain't neither of those things, to my eye.
Sign Ricky Rubio to that money, instead. And then STAY THE COURSE and use that draft pick on your PF of the future. You can trade down if you want, but in any case, if you don't draft one of ZION or CLARKE, you're out of your minds. Don't punt on the draft. Just kick a field goal.

His shooting is unplayably bad. If we're going for a non-shooter it should be Rubio.
Truth is if he wants a guaranteed starting spot we are the ONLY team that can offer that outside of Chicago. So if Rozier is really the target (and I fear he is), then he needs to be coming at a bargain (like 7-8 mil a year).
The floated amounts of $15 mill for Rozier and Oubre are horrifying. I wouldn't be sure I'd want BOTH for $15 in total, let alone each, and tying up $30 mil (a near max contract) on those 2 who are AT BEST mediocre role players with upside, is a crippling offseason.

Um, didn't he buy RCD Mallorca which is currently in 8th in the Segunda Division? That's....not good.
Also upon further inspection, the first year he owned the team they dropped into the Spanish 3rd division for the first time in like 30 years. They are back to the 2nd division now and playing well in that division, but that's hardly something to hang your hat on in soccer. Far cry from 'success'

Last year they were in 3rd division.
Since Sarver they have risen and are now in a comfortable 8th place and three points away from the promotion playoffs.
Not bad at all.

I'd love Siakam, but how the hell would we get him? He's RFA. They would move him for someone like AD to win a title, but they aren't going to let him go as RFA even if we max him. So unless we are trading our 1st this year or a ton of future 1sts and something good, I can't see that happening.

It's admitted improvement, but unless you're playing in the first division, it's not much to be thrilled about.

I have serious doubts about Chandler's ability as a mentor, so yeah, Len is a decent player after all. And he even shoots 3s.
He would be a good backup to Ayton.
Len has been legitimately fine for 2 years. He was a good rim protector and he had his faults, but most young bigs do. I like Holmes a bit more for that role, but Len was never the lost cause many suggested. He's a great backup or bottom 5 starter at his position in the league. For that horrid draft, that isn't a bust. The picks that have really killed us have been Jackson (so far), Chriss, and Bender (so far). I still think Bender will end up a hell of a role player somewhere. He's only 21.

We are talking about Robert Sarver. The reverse King Midas.
Even a small improvement is a great success. At least it is proof that he is not cursed for all eternity.

I'd give serious thought to making a reasonable offer to Bender this offseason, perhaps with a PO. I don't think we'd be the only suitors for him this offseason, but we might be able to be the first to make him a decent guaranteed deal. I actually wonder if perhaps he'd be more comfortable extending with us if he continues to start, and especially if we start to have some success here down the stretch. We've been a better team with Dragan at the 4 than Josh, Mikal or Kelly, and it's pretty obvious why. If his three ever gets there, we'll feel like idiots watching him succeed with another team, when in theory he should really be a good pairing with Deandre.

No he chooses the wrong people to build a basketball team. That shows how much more egotistical nba people are when his soccer team and WNBA team are all winning. Maybe the colangelos sent out evil emails after Bryan was fired to make his time as owner as difficult as possible.

Maybe I'm just underestimating the market but I feel the same way I do with Rozier as I do with Oubre when I have to ask 'who the **** is going give them $15M per year?" I feel like both guys will probably be lucky to get $10M per. Julius Randle who is better than them signed for like 10M last summer.
The one positive I will say about Terry is I have no doubt he'd come and play his ass off. Dude is one of those chip on his shoulder guys. But that can be scary too if he has irrational confidence and tries to take over games.
The problem is we can wait to see what people offer Oubre. With Rozier it's us deciding on what Boston might match....which means we could vastly overpay.
With PLENTY of options at PG as good as him, we shouldn't be doing this. Pay him what he is worth. If they don't match, great. If they do, move on to any of the number of dudes who are as good (Collison, similar vets who aren't obvious starters on their current teams).

I have a strong preference for a steady vet with a solid track record. Getting one really shouldn't be so big a lift.

I am done with this stupid private ownership of sport teams, it needs to nationalized and owned by the state or city that it bears the name. someone please possesses a recording of Bob saying the n word.

I would go after others first...no need to tie up money and wait and see if they match when there are better options and at worst, equal options out there who are unrestricted.
Unfortunately, the Spalding deal leads me to believe they will go after him...hope I'm wrong.

I know nothing about European soccer, this Sarver owned team and how they are run but I'd hazard a guess that Sarver doesn't have nearly as much involvement with that team than the Suns where he is based

Was coming here to make the exact same post. Honestly feel like a team friendly contract would be the way to go. Wonder if we could get him for like, $5-6/season for 3 years? It's affordable, a good contract for a trade, and probably as good of value as he'd get on the open market unless someone wants to overpay mightily for him.

With Walton I guess it would depend on his options. With so many coaching changes last summer I actually think this will be a relatively quite summer for coach firings. The Lakers job probably opens up. I guess Minnesota might be looking but I could see them just stay with Flips son. Portland is a possibility but that puts another good coach on the markets in Stotts who I'd be fine with.
Personally unless behind the scenes they feel like Igor has just lost this team I would give him another year.
I know people have thought otherwise but I don't think he's lost the team at all. Even Booker not long ago said he was doing a phenomenal job or something like that. Who knows though. Sarver is so hard to read. But the publicity around Sarver will get far worse I imagine if they get rid of him.
I actually like his calm demeanor and temperate nature. I hope that they keep him and he develops along the lines of a quiet zen master type of coach, ala Phil Jackson or Poppovich.
Most of all, I agree that we need continuity and stability. Having said that, I really hope he figures out how to incorporate Ayton a lot more as needed though.

I'd like to see tyler johnson in jamal crawfords role next year. I think the suns have overwhelming ly won both of their trades this year.
"Mannnnn I’m like the guy that pissed this whole board off saying literally all year no Mikal, no Mikal in the KD trade."
