Ernie: gone at last? Or must we suffer further?

I assume this is a rhetorical question and both answers read "GM for life."

We'll probably know more in 2-3 more years.

GM 4 Life, I hold out the tiniest bit of hope that Ernie will be fired after we are mathematically eliminated from making the playoffs.
The absolute best we can hope is that Ernie will be "promoted" to a new position in the FO, and that Shepard will move up, Ted isn't going to fire EG late in the season when other teams have gotten the jump on interviewing GM's (Suns/Pelicans)

Re: Ernie: gone at last? Or must we suffer further?
I got it 80% he is gone. I think Ted knows the fan base is dwindling and will be even worse if EG isnt fired.
They have no catalyst with them being capped out and John not coming back until the end of the year AT BEST.
Ted likes John, but he loves Beal. And Beal has made it clear that he thinks very little of EG.
Im sure the next 2-3 months will be Ted looking for the next GM/President.

It doesn't matter because Ted has become involved in the decisions and they are even more curious than the decisions Ernie constantly made.

Ted's so excited about figuring ways to get gambling revenue that he may no longer have time to get involved in roster decisions. <wishful thinking>

Well, as a Bucks fan, I don't want to see the Wiz on the rise.
BUT, I lived out there in the late 80ss-early 90s and as a fan base, you all have suffered enough. This is enough for me to hope he is let go. I think I'll hear the sigh of relief all the way in Milwaukee.

If they don't make the playoffs, I think it's 50-50. If they do, he's back. And yes, Ted is running the show. Maybe not the draft but all the key money moves. I've been saying that for years because he's the smartest guy in the room and EG is his puppet.

Oh, it's less than 50/50 even with a soft schedule remaining. They have to pass 3 teams; they're 3 games behind both Charlotte and Miami and 2.5 games behind Orlando. I think Miami's gonna win it for Wade.

Re: Ernie: gone at last? Or must we suffer further?
A bunch of funny responses!!
So far, sadly, most people think there is simply nothing he can do to lose his job.
He can trade 2 R2 picks to move up 4 places in the draft, then trade the guy he picks for a guy who will be a UFA in 30 games.
He can trade a lottery pick for a guy he then trades for nothing.
He can sign a guy to a guaranteed 4 year deal then have to give away a R1 pick just to get rid of him.
He can sign another guy to a guaranteed 4 year deal, then play him 1500 minutes in 2.5 years, then have to give away a pick to get rid of him.
He can sign the most overpriced FA deal in the last decade, rarely play the guy he signed, & be unable to get rid of him.
He can trade a R2 pick for a guy who plays 800 minutes & is gone.
He can sign a FA 2 guard for 2 years then have to give away a pick to get rid of him.
All in 3 years -- 3 R1 picks given away, 5 R2 picks given away, & $65m paid to Ian Mahinmi -- & the net return is... a blank. Nothing.

We all know that Steve Buchhantz is the real problem here.

I think the Scott Brooks hiring was all Ted. Maybe all the decisions about hiring-firing coaches have been since he assumed sole control.

Nope.. the Brooks hiring was aaall Grunfeld. Ernie knew Scott from his Knicks days and reportedly he immediately targeted him without interviewing any other candidates. Brooks said there wasn't even really an official interview process, Ernie flew out to CA to meet up with him and they spent 10 hours hanging out and chatting
Obviously Ted signed off on the huge 5yr contract, but it was a classic "win the press conference" hire that EG orchestrated to make himself look good.
I think EG led Ted to believe that they had a chance at Durant, and Leonsis bought it hook line and sinker because he doesn't understand how the NBA landscape works.

The good news is that the Wizards pretty much control their destiny. They have a total of 4 more games against their 8th seed competitors (Miami, Orlando and Charlotte twice). If they win all those games, they deliver their competitors key losses while locking up the tiebreaker against all of them. We currently have what is effectively a 3-game deficit behind those teams. Winning those games makes it effectively a 1-game deficit.
From that point on, it's just a matter of winning more games in non head-to-head matchups. Our remaining strength of schedule is considerably easier than Miami's or Charlotte's, and only slightly harder than Orlando's.
But if the Wizards can't win those games against their 8th seed competitors, it's over. I don't see how they can catch them after spotting them one more win and giving them the tiebreakers. And to be sure, the odds of winning all 4 of those are pretty slim.

I think the move I announced in the Buckhantz-is-gone thread is going to make all the difference -- especially in insuring that fans' already high motivation keeps growing.
Remember, winning & losing are not everything. What's important is that you know more than everybody else -- & Ernie & Ted are comfortable in their certainty of that.
