Re: Welcome Tobias Harris
I get that have a second great playmaker isn't as valuable has having the first one, but defensive value doesn't really diminish that much just because you have other good defenders.

Barring a major let down in the playoffs they will both be back.

Now personally I don't believe the 76ers have any intention of maxing 4 players. They may, if they win the Championship, but otherwise I don't believe it. No team is going to lock themselves into a RECORD repeater tax bill BEFORE the group wins the championship. I think they will pick one, either Butler or Tobias and let the other walk and replace the other with a cheaper player they believe can fill the roles they need. Doesn't mean they're only trying to win this one season, means they'll try to win with a slightly different group next year, if they fail to win this year.
What would be worse is allow Butler to walk, be capped out with 3 max or near max contracts while being close but not good enough the next 3-5 years and really have no ability to get much better.
I have to believe a decision was made before any trades were made if they were going to pay the guys they traded for because if they weren't, why wouldn't you trade those assets for cheaper long term upgrades?
Also, who says you have to keep players their whole contract, keeping a guy like Butler 4 years and then trading him as a huge expiring might be a decent way of adding talent/assets back to the roster since it's quite likely the 76ers will still be capped.

Let's hope they don't draw the Nets or Celtics in the first round.

Re: Welcome Tobias Harris
Tobi's the best overall offensive player on this team. His shot is a thing of beauty. Quick release and perfect form. He gets in the lane and can finish with floaters, dunks, tough finishes, etc. Great cutter. From a pure scoring standpoint he's the best in a loaded starting lineup.
I also love his demeanor. Competitive spirit but doesn't get out of line. He's a very likable guy.

Yup.
His low maintenance personality in conjunction with his shooting skill have been the two biggest keys to how seamless his assimilation has been.

Re: Welcome Tobias Harris
He’s been very impressive on defense.
16 DFGA per game.
6.7 DFGA <6ft. per game
He challenges second most shots next to Embiid.

He's worth a max contract, to be honest.

Re: Welcome Tobias Harris
He is the most perfect fit you can imagine. I'd say that the only better fit to our core other than him could only be Klay Thompson.
Would love to lock him up for the next 5 years.

Re: Welcome Tobias Harris
They should have only trade for Harris. The problem with the team is lack of guard depth . The guards are Ben, TJ, Milton and JJ.
If JJ is injured or an off night you have a serious problem . Ben and TJ cannot shoot 3 pt. TJ and JJ are defensive liability and you cannot play them together. 76ers should have traded SRP for guard depth - Hood, Bullock , Justin Holiday.
If the team exist in First or second round, Butler or Simmons are going to leave. Simmons could leave for Lakers because of his Girlfriend/ LeBron influence.

I see your point. But Mike Scott and Boban aren’t pushovers.
If you look at the numbers, we’re ELITE offensively. The issue is our defense.
Our defense collapses when Biid is off the floor. Thus, Ive been saying how a back-up C who can anchor the defense is actually our biggest need. We got that in Boban.
Second biggest need? A stretch 4. And i’m happy with Mike Scott. The guy is a 3&D wing in a PF’s body. He’s 10x better than Ennis and Jon simmons combined.
People cry about Shamet and those picks. Be realistic.. shamet will never be a star. Those picks aren’t worth much. Look at the Kings and Lakers pick. These picks are likely to land us Avery Bradley 2.0 and the Celtics their next Yabusele

And don’t make me describe Tobias because I’m really high on him that I think he can be the second most important player on the team in 3-4 years. He’s just 26 and has the upside to be an elite scorer and a good defensive player.

I think Embiid would leave too. Contracts be damned.

He challenges second most shots next to Embiid.
Second behind Embiid in shots defended below 6ft & 6.5dfga while defenders shoot 7% below their average (Biid is at -7.7%). Based on that number, Tobias protects the rim almost as frequent as Al Horford (6.6dfga) and is better at limiting his opponents fg% (horford at -5.9dfg%)
His dfga and dfg% at shots below 6ft are comparable to Al Horford and Jarett Allen

That feels noisy and really doesn't match the eye test at all.
He's been better on on defense than I expected though. Not a playmaker or stopper on that end, but he can hold his own in the post and on the perimeter.
