I'm still fully in the camp that he'll be a superstar and the bona fide face of this franchise. His shot has come along very nicely for his experience level, and I expect that to continue. Once he starts getting more calls inside, he'll start averaging closer to 10 FTs a game, and then it's over.

Okay - you can color me as a negative twit but I think that one kind of stuck a fork in us... we are done. We are just not a good enough basketball team this season to go on a 10 game run.

It was a nice run though...

I never understood this push to call it when there is still a chance. The team will be "done" when we are mathematically eliminated. Weirder things have happened.

In many cases it makes sense... you rest your vets, get playing time for the youngsters, tank just a bit to get a better draft pick.

I don't see the Kings doing any of that... I just thing that there is less than a 5% chance that it happens given how they have played.

I get being a fan though: a person whose enthusiasm or zeal for something is extreme. I don't mean to rain on your parade, just sharing my disappointment and appreciation for this season. I think we have made real progress.

For me, when I know that the games become more meaningless - I don't pay attention at the same rate and focus on the future.

My two cents.

I will add Marvin Bagley as well. Those two will go places together...

But none those things really make sense for this team at this point.

Going off the percentages isn't smart if you really want your team to succeed though. You never know if a team is gonna hit a slump like the Spurs did earlier or is gonna streak like the Thunder have recently.

If half the fan base has "called it" and just doesn't go to games or support at the same level, that could hurt the teams effort and energy in our building. I guess I just expect more loyalty than that from our fanbase.

I understand the disappointment but making absolute statements when we are still able to achieve great things is a defeatist attitude I have never understood.

I think we are in violent agreement on your bold - right? "I don't see the Kings doing any of that..."

I guess we have what we call disagreement on terms - defeatist vs. realist. But I hear you...

You do make a good point - when folks don't show up there is a different feeling at Golden 1 Center. I don't know how long you have been a Kings fan either. I had tickets in 85–86, the "warehouse" was right down the street from where I worked. And it was packed even in those seasons where we had no chance to go to the playoffs.

This - Fox took a huge leap from potential bust to very solid starting PG. Defense, he is already there and will just get better as he gets stronger.

Offensively, I think there are two things. First he needs to improve his 3 point shooting and then shoot more of them (getting rid of the mid-range shots whenever possible (in order to put pressure on the defender). And second just get stronger to be able to finish. His Assist/TO ratio is already 2 to 1 - guessing that will go up as time goes on.

He has a very high ceiling.

I disagree regarding the mid-range. That's the shot that's going to open up his game. Right now guys are shading him all the way to the rim. If his pull-up becomes consistent they won't be able to do that. He puts pressure on the defense by getting to the rim.

He should stick to taking threes when they go under on the screen. He doesn't ever need to be the kind of guy who forces that shot.

A realist outlook is that it will be hard for us to make the playoffs, not that we can't. That is defeatist and has no place in Sactown imo. Yes, we haven't made enough plays to win these recent close games but saying that can't change or the task of making up ground in the race is impossible is counter productive to a young team.

Fair enough... fivethirtyeight gives us a 3% chance of making the playoffs. What percentage until we say to stick a fork in the season (in terms of making the playoffs).

I think we are already in violent agreement that there shouldn't be a change in who plays :D

You make a good point - he doesn't shoot that well from mid-range or from 3. You may be right that working on his 3-10 and 10-16 foot shots might make the biggest difference.

Code: Select all

0-3     3-10    10-16   16-3pt   3pt
0.711   0.352   0.404   0.342    0.367

I also think he needs to improve his three point shot and get rid of the 16-3pt shots as much as possible - he shoots 13% of his shots from there.

You both do realize that there are still a large number of games left and that if any one of Gallo/Williams/Harrell from the Clips or Aldridge/DeRozan from the Spurs goes down those teams would IMMEDIATELY go into the tank?

They are not good enough teams (witness us with Marvin going down and how it totally killed our inside game) to withstand that caliber of player off their roster going down and still be able to win out enough to hold their spots.
Obviously that’s an extreme scenario but it is a realistic one. It’s not at all uncommon for a team to have a late season injury and take a total dump. And there’s no trade deadline to save them now and all the quality waived players for those positions have been picked up or would only join a contender.

A poorly played game but strangely satisfying - Fox was just flat out terrific.

Bogi i Bagley good games are mostly dependent on his good releases, although in the future they should be assistant with Barnes..

Am I the only one that feels like since the ADG that Buddy has seriously become a legend in his own mind?
I mean it’s great when his shot is falling but he doesn’t seem to get that when it’s not you need to STOP SHOOTING and get to the cup and the FT line.

It's also showing that without those Buddy heroics working out the Kings are not very good. One thing is he's always making an impact somewhere else so that's a positive.
