I dunno if Frank has the tenacity to ever reach Roberson or Allen level defensively tbh.

Frank don’t have any grit in him. Most if not all elite defenders have it within themselves.

Grit can only get you so far... just ask the 90s knicks

I don't think Fiz has used Frank correctly, but more concerning is why Perry didn't step in there (in private of course).
Fiz's view on Frank is moot at the moment since Frank is out (and tbh I'm sceptical he'll be back this month - none of the few medical updates give any indication he's near to returning). A greater worry would be whether Perry thinks Fiz has gotten the Beetiay right, and so Frank is expendable.
I dunno man, both coaches Frank has had here have had him up close and decided to go against their boss’s wishes and NOT play the kid? I don’t even think it’s a work hard thing because apparently he’s a bit of a gym rat. But the results aren’t there.
Maybe he’s not that good, maybe he’s not that good yet but they don’t seem to prioritize his development in what is a development year. And he hasn’t wrestled anything away from anyone (neither has Knox, I know).
There is something to what we all see.
They obviously don’t care much for what he brings to the table. They’ve probably got his mind all twisted up in the process too. It’s unfortunate too but I can’t emphatically say everyone around the Knicks is just dumb because they’re not playing this jewel of a prospect.
I mean, its tough to know, because we are all on the outside, making guesses on our probably pretty faulty understanding of what we see in games. So, yeah, it looks like you're right and the coaches don't like him (ie his game).
However, I don't know if that's going against the bosses wishes. I think it isn't. I think that the coaches are being left far too much lattitude on their own and are completely insufficiently directed by the FO. Both Jefe and Flat.*
Now, as per my convo with Buzz itt, it's not a cut and dried thing what the interaction between the FO and the coach(es) should be. However I feel extremely strongly that for the Knicks over these past two years (including before KP was injured, but let's specifically say from immediately after Melo was traded) it has been crucial for the coaches and the FO to be working intimately together. And I don't see that as having happened* - or, alternatively, the FO has also been culpable in terrible playing time and line up decisions.
More specifically, Flat broke up the Frank-Mitch-... starting line up which still has by far and away the best stats .. for made up reasons .. essentially so he could prise vets seeking new contracts into the lineup. I don't know who's idea that was. I don't know why it was never reverted. It just seems perverse. It also seems perverse for 50% of the board to think "the results aren’t there" (stealing and maybe twisting what you said a little - apologies if that was too out of line
Someone, meh b7?, makes posts about how the Fiz+FO only like "aggression". There is a point to that too. I suspect that links up with my thoughts about the FO being better at opportunistic decisions (which, again, let me stress, the confidence and ability to make is a great quality to have) than longer term planning. Their preferences for players is linked to their aesthetic proclivities/professional strengths. I lean the other way, maybe Frank does too.
* And giving the coaches too much autonomy (for my liking) is probably part of the same dichotomy.
[T]hey don’t seem to prioritize his development in what is a development year ... They obviously don’t care much for what he brings to the table. They’ve probably got his mind all twisted up in the process too.
It's a problem.
Again, it isn't an immediate problem - the guy's been out for 6 weeks and ime he's probably out for another 4 .. which takes us to more or less the end of the season for the playoffless Knicks.
But maybe it does speak to their FO-ing style going forwards. Will they be able to use stats properly if they get Durant and Irving?

I don’t think Perry is much of an analytics guy, which is actually a problem

Can we trade all the young guys already? What are Rondo, Lance, Super Beas and McGee doing next year?

wish I was wrong but I agree. That doesn't seem to be in him and its not something you learn. You are born with it.

Frank is the perfect fit next to no one unless he locates a jump shot.

Can't believe we are giving up on him, it's like watching T. Ariza all over again

Pretty sure Frank has grit - he's just been in the background much too long

If he was, he wouldn’t have picked Fiz and he wouldn’t have traded for the worst defensive point guard in the NBA last season.

The fact that you have to cherry pick names is exactly my point.
