Just looking at how FA has shaped up so far - I think I'd rather drop 10 mil a year on an impact safety, and then go with numbers over just one guy like Dee Ford. We have so many holes in this roster, take a number of chances and hope a few shake out, specifically on defense

Move on from Jimmy Graham and Nick Perry (or restructure their contracts down)

Appears AB wants a new deal which is a deal breaker for me

Agreed. This FA class is super deep at safety. I'd like to see us pick up one of the top safeties (Earl Thomas, Landon Collins), and a 2nd tier value safety.

Why pickup a 2nd tier safety when we have/can sign Breeland?

I don't think Breeland has been re-signed yet, but even if we do re-sign him, I think it would make sense to pick up another 2 safeties in free agency. Pettine seems like to like playing 3 safeties on the field together. Breeland is also probably our 2nd best cornerback now behind Alexander, so depending on how some of the other young corners develop, we might need him to stay at corner. Since this FA class is so deep at safety, I'm hoping Gute can find some good value a week or two into free agency.

Depending on what happens in FA and the draft, does Jackson get moved to Safety, or split time between positions?

Watching some Dee Ford highlights, super fast off the edge and doesn't just go for the sack but always tries to strip the ball as well. Dude is a beast.

I liked Dee Ford if he wasn’t tagged. But trading a pick to pay him 20 mil per year doesn’t sound appealing.

I'd take a chance on Ford if we can get him for a 3rd. MAYBE I could be talked into giving up a second but man, it would be tough to part with that draft capital for a guy who may or may not be worth it on a tagged deal.

EDIT: On second thought, I'm probably not going after Ford unless we can get him for cheap. Just too many questions marks and this tweet made me re-think my position on it. Spending on safeties and drafting your edge rushers might be the way to go.

I was against trading for Mack last year because trading multiple 1sts along with the massive cap hit was simply too much imo.

However a 2nd or a 3rd for the right to pay Ford isnt scaring me away if only for the reason ot allows us to go different directions in round 1. If you were to tell me Sweat is available at 12 though I'd pass.

That all said it's probably best to wait and see who, if anyone, of the top pass rushers on the market we can lure away without giving up picks before making a decision

I'm with this. We have his old coach, and if he says this is the guy, then it is worth sending. The upside to hitting on an elite pass rusher is just too good.

Also, potentially an elite pass rusher in his prime. His coach would definitely know. I'm going to trust how this plays out.

I don't think this is as alarming as he frames it to be. Prior to his 13 sack season this past year, his last healthy season was 10 sacks. His first two years he saw minimal playing time. The year between his 10 and 13 sack seasons he was hurt.

It makes for an interesting tweet only if you ignore the context.

Thought he played a little safety. But guess I was wrong.

You aren’t wrong, Breelans also plays safety and is actually better at that’s position than he is at corner.

Breeland isn't signing to play S for half the money he can get at CB

Ford smells like a one year wonder. I'd hesitate to give him a big contract on top of significant draft picks to KC.
