I know. I may need to get a few rides under my belt to get that sweet Lobbyist cash.

Hopefully all of the new development is sustainable. Arena traffic alone isn't enough. My first impressions of Good City and Punch Bowl are positive (I haven't eaten at either yet). When everything is done I think that whole area is going to be pretty dynamic.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I think it will be sustainable. 3rd St is already a popular place to hang out and honestly, most of the bar/restaurant choices are uninspiring and redundant at best. Plus for the foreseeable future I think there will be a buzz about the area that people will want to be around just because it's new, and there's a state-of-the-art facility overlooking everything.

Look like it was 150k visitors. I bet we get that much from the DNC. Looked like Harly generated 9 figures for the city and you could tell it was a big deal to local businesses.

The big difference is the money and publicity for the city. Most Americans will be able to tell you that the DNC is happening in Milwaukee. The average American had no idea Harley Fest was going on in the fall. The people coming for the DNC also bring a lot more money with big events for donors and networking. Harley fest is a big deal for the city as is, this is even bigger.

LOL, this won't be anywhere near as big as Harley. Both the Republican and Democrat conventions were estimated to draw 50k. As we know, those visitors estimates are always over projected for economic impact. https://www.politico.com/story/2016/07/dnc-by-the-numbers-226037. If you think this is big deal for Milwaukee, why does the city have to take out a 10 million dollar loan and where were the last 2 conventions held? https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/elections/2018/12/26/milwaukee-democratic-convention-bid-hinges-10-million-guarantee/2411236002/

It's a big deal.

Also, a line of credit is different from a loan.

Also, the city didn't take out the line of credit.

A line of credit that is always used, and yes the City of Milwaukee had to acquire the loan just to host. Look at what happened in Charlotte, they lucked into Duke Energy forgiving the 6 million dollar loan after the DNC stiffed them.

The organizers had to obtain a line of credit not the city. Again, a line of credit is not a loan.

Around 20 minutes in. I don't think Edens knows that it's warmer near the lake in the winter.

Going to dinner at PBS on the 26th before the Rockets game. Will report back.

I stopped in briefly over the weekend but it was too crowded to order or look around much. Looked cool from what I saw.

Good City always seems popular before and after games. Went after a game and they have a large space upstairs with easy to access beer stands. They turned the music up and lights down after the game. Not my scene but beer is good and people seem to like it.

I'm going with my daughter that night, and she wants to go there for whatever reason. It's cheaper than Benihana, which is her usual go-to.

I think if they add enough residential, office, and hotels they'll sustain it. You are right that arena traffic alone may not be enough. I worry that it ends up like Streeterville in Chicago which had a ton of development but no thought to green space or pedestrians. It ended up with a bunch of four lane one ways with cars zipping all over the place. Really kind of a depressing area despite all the new buildings.

Would be cool if they had an outdoor venue downtown where the BC was, I know it wont happen but a green area with shops would be nice.

Will take years to scrub that place clean. Should just knock that place down and build new. The building is hideous

It's historic. There will always be a part of me inside there. Take that however you wish.

The first time I stopped in there before a game the bar area was packed, couldn't get close to ordering a beer. Wandered upstairs and it was easy.
