you need stop operating under the assumption that Ja isn't a good prospect. you might think so, but someone drafting him in the top 4 obviously isn't.

and Zach hasn't at any point in his career demonstrated he can be a winning player...all he's doing now is scoring on a bad team and on average efficiency at that. everything else is sub-par.

He is like 6'3 170lbs soaking wet with a shaky jumpshot, what is he gonna do in the NBA next season?

I don't think he's a bad prospect, but he's certainly not an "immediate impact" type player imo. He's not someone you can draft and hand the reigns to right away expecting them to lead a successful team.

again, irrelevant. your argument shouldn't be 'dont trade Zach', your argument should be 'don't draft Ja'.

this entire discussion is circled around the Bulls drafting Ja. If they like him enough to draft him that high, Zach LaVine isn't a good enough piece to get in the way of that.

plus...if Zach is really that valuable a piece, they should get something good back in return right

I think your harping on Zach Lavine is what's irrelevant. Lavine is a good player who fits with the rest of the Bulls core. If they draft Morant and he doesn't fit, what makes you think they'll trade Lavine? Why not just flip Morant for a better fitting PG?

Bulls can draft Morant and do whatever they want with him. They don't have to keep him on the team just because they drafted him with a high pick.

because my point is this: IF they draft Ja...meaning they really like Ja...they should only draft him with the intention of trading LaVine. you don't draft Ja just so you can trade him in 6 months.

Uhh no, they should draft him if they think he's the BPA .
Whether they keep him or not, he'll have the highest asset value.

If the Knicks land Morant and then end up signing Kyrie Irving, obviously Morant is going to hit the trade block. That doesn't mean you don't draft Morant.

yes, if they think he's the best BPA they should draft him...with the intention of trading away LaVine in the process.

no, i just don't think he's anything special, and I don't like his fit with Morant.

As funny as it sounds he is kinda like a bizzaro Kevin Johnson/Steve Nash. Not that he's like either player because he is not but he has shades of the two.

Has all star talent.

Needs to show more commitment defensively, develop his pull up / middle game and not be so casual in his decision making.

Think he'll struggle early in his career until he can force teams to go over on him in ball screens and if he continues to float on D like he has in college. Also pretty left handed off the bounce right now, struggles decelerating and lacks great footwork overall shooting off the dribble. Don't think he'll be a super effective 1v1 player early on either as he works through these issues.

But I like the work ethic, intangibles and natural talent/instincts enough to bet on him high in the draft. Think there's a chance he can be a high impact player offensively on a good team if things go right and I just don't see that being on the table for many of the guys in this draft, including RJ.

As far as fit goes, I hope he ends up in Memphis. He and Jaren could be a really fun duo.

Morant has STAR written all over him. He's my 2nd best player. Anyone who doesn't have him top 3 is just kidding themselves. He seriously might be one of the most polarizing college PGs in the last 10 years. It's like watching a college version of Russell Westbrook.

He's been doing it all season... but now that he's doing it in the tournament the disparity between conferences as an argument he won't translate will fade quickly. Murray state the team is much better than I expected though if today is any indication.

The release point on his jumper seems a bit low but he's a lot of fun to watch. Here's a couple of nice plays from today's upset of Marquette, including a pretty filthy dunk-

The passing ability, the basketball IQ, the athleticism, ability to shoot off the dribble and he shows potential to be a solid shooter based on him shooting 80%+ from the FT line. Defense is a question mark but I would only take Zion ahead of him at this point.

Lavine is a significantly more valuable archetype than Ja in the modern NBA . People think Morant will be better than Lavine is now?

because they are a terrible fit together

I would rather flip Morant for a vet PG in that case. Ja + filler for Jrue Holiday
If I'm Chicago I am not moving Lavine with the kind of potential he's showing , plus he is on a bargain contract.

You can't expect a rookie PG like Morant to come in and turn things around. At a certain point you have to many young guys and none of them will develop properly without guidance

They clearly need a creative PG.

Then you trade Morant for Holiday, or maybe for Conley + Grizz pick
The last thing PHX needs is another young kid coming in there trying to dominate the ball and get his numbers.

I have to respectfully disagree. You don't win championships by trading away the right to a guy like Morant. In a league with great pg's Morant has the chance to be at the top of the list. He's Rondo esque with his passing and vision. But he's also explosive. There might be question marks about his shooting, but the dude is a low 80% FT shooter. So there's a chance he can become a knock down 3 point shooter. And he plays under control and within the offense. He's the closest thing I've seen to a complete package - in terms of skill, athleticism, size and basketball iq - for a pg ever.

Morant is way better than Westbrook was in college.

Knowing the Suns, they'll just take another wing again.. on another note, they seriously might be the only team in the league who might take Morant #1 if they win the lotto. They're very desperate for a PG and a backcourt player next to Booker. I really don't think that team can survive another year without a PG. They'll probably implode.

No I'm saying it's like we're watching a Russell Westbrook who's in college. Ja was just toying with Marquette today.

LOL The Suns already imploded. They just got DeAndre Ayton and still can't do anything. That organization, from top to bottom, is trash just like the 1990's Clippers. Having Ja Morant will not change anything there. He earned better than that.
