And I'll take the silence on my question as a no. Seriously, like, you regulars who "know what youre watching" should at least consider opposing viewpoints from this board's consensus before automatically disagreeing with everything I say.........wasnt making it up, look beyond lineup data occasionally and watch[/quote]
Adams is as fast as you could want a 7ft ball of muscle. His potitioning is usually great and while he's no all NBA first team, he is in the top half of defensive Centers. Probably close to top 10. Not sure what more you expect of him to be honest. He is the least of our worries.
I don't want a 7ft ball of muscle for 25 mill a year. That was suited for the 1980s and 1990s. While Adams is no stiff, he's pretty slow for today's game, which is more about defending the pick and roll and recovering, and helping on and discouraging drives. His positioning isn't what it's made out to be, he often over helps and is too slow to recover to his man/the lane, or takes bad angles when he does help as guards go by him for layups. He doesn't bother many of their shots. His second jump on the defensive glass is pretty bad, and he also has a tendency to stay flat footed and attached to the guy he's guarding if he's near the basket rather than impact drives with any help, as he's just too slow.
I could see not being sure what I expect of him if he were making 12-15 mil. But he's paid like an all star. He's not consistent, teams attack his lack of speed all the time, he is limited in his post moves, and mainly relies on others, particularly Westbrook, to create his offense. His range is about 10 feet, and he cant hit FTs. He doesn't create offense for others outside his offensive rebounding, which is great, but he doesn't consistently draw a double team on the catch. It's one of the teams main issues, in that they only have 3 guys that can create a play- Westbrook, george, and schroeder. 4 if you count grant. I want a guy making 25 mil to consistently be able to do that as well. He doesn't really.
I'm not saying he's terrible. He's probably a top 12-15 center most nights. Some nights he's badly outplayed by guys like jarrett Allen or Jonah Bolden. I want more than that for 25 mil a season and think that's fair. The guy gets a pass like he's a role player, but is paid to be a star. He wears down every year and just isn't that. Very similar to Otto porter, Hassan Whiteside, and Harrison Barnes. They aren't bad players, but aren't what they are paid to be.
