Zion Williamson in the NBA?

Post#1 » by LakerLegend » Fri Mar 15, 2019 7:48 pm

If he's not at least an All-Star caliber player I'll be shocked, players who are that special physically and have some semblance of skills/IQ/motor don't turn into busts.

Prove me wrong.

I don't think anyone is arguing with you. In back to back years we've had what are (to my eyes) the best prospects since LeBron in Luka and Zion.

Nah...he's not as skilled as LeBron.

I agree, but Luka was not as sure a thing as Zion. He's hands down the best prospect since LBJ. I just hope his weight doesn't become an issue.

He could turn out better than LeBron, but saying that he will is verging on blasphemy. Let the kid play first.

Players this hyped up rarely meet the expectations. He's athletically gifted, but he hasn't shown an IQ to match LeBron. Charles Barkley is his ceiling (that's a compliment btw)

Whoaaaaa. Slow down there, how about we see him play against grown men first. Those kids are intimidated, pro's not so much.

World is putting way too much pressure on him right now. The guy is from a small school. It will be interesting to see if his nerves get the best of him when he finally becomes pro.

I think his floor/worst case is Julius Randle

No, he's not going to be better than Lebron. Get real. I would bet on Zion winning multiple DPOY awards though. He has a chance to go down as one the greatest defenders of all time. He's more Ben Wallace than Shawn Kemp. Actually, he's Ben Wallace meets young Blake Griffin. He's a real life Looney Tune's Monstar.

Pretty easy bet to make that he won't be as good or better than Lebron or close. Ridiculously high bar to set.

I think post-Lebron it's more likely that we will have a Magic v Bird decade rather than a decade dominated (in terms of storylines) by one person.

I think Zion, Luka, and maybe still Giannis could make the 2020's the decade of the Freaks.

Where finally the lightbulb has clicked on that every ball player needs to have PG skills no matter their height in middle school.

Whenever the 7 foot Zion (basically Shaq) shows up in high school a decade or two from now...we need to teach him to dribble like Kyrie, shoot like Curry, and have a motor and love for the game like Zion.

Wow, people need to pump the brakes. Him at age 18 is nothing compared to LBJ at age 18. Dunk good though and the hype train just goes off the rails. I'd clearly take him #1 and don't see a way he's not at least a solid NBA player but relax people and try to remember that he's going to have to play on the wing in the NBA due to his height and remember he just won't be able to bully everyone in the NBA as tons of guys can physically bang with him. We'll likely never see a phenom at LBJs level in our lifetimes.

He is so far outside the norm that its nearly impossible to project him. The one thing that really sticks out is that he is off ball dominant. That is to say, he isn't pounding the ball and having the entire team run through him. There is a long highlight reel of him online and something like 90% of the plays are ones where he has the ball for less than 2 seconds.

I think that if a team tries to run their entire offense through him, they will be disappointed. If someone else runs the offense and Zion just is free to run around and get quick post ups, lobs, catch and drive, etc. stuff I think he will put up big numbers on huge efficiency and have epic on off based numbers but at the same time, he will have a vocal group of detractors who call him out for not being a traditional isolation scorer.

I strongly disagree with those who don't think he has a good basketball IQ. For his age, its off the charts and yeah, his motor is crazy too. I have been watching basketball for a very long time and never seen anything like him.

The hype is concerning me, like it’s got to be getting out of hand at least a little, bit I will say I really liked his comments after last nights game how he appreciated people’s advice but he wasn’t going to let his teammates down. Him coming back to play makes me think positively of him as teammate and a competitor - so that’s a good sign.
