I literally just posted a basketball analysis from 2003 that repeated my points for you, but you hang on to that, buddy.

No GM in his right mind... was that not clear? And I was going to post about Ainge saying he would have drafted him first overall at the time that he was a sophmore in high school, the year before he entered if he could (or 2 years, can't recall), at least it's more relevant than that. James was clearly number one long before and Zion in this year, and James wasn't behind a player like Barrett (like at the start of the year), which was the point here.

Oden, Durant and AD were in between those two groups. All of them would have been ranked well above Doncic as a prospect. John Wall too.

As good as Doncic is now, and I thought he should have gone #1 in the draft just as I’m sure you did, the fact he had so many doubters discounts his elite prospect status.

Maybe. I guess it's subjective in that respect and it wasn't universal as with LeBron and Zion.

I'd clearly take him #1 and don't see a way he's not at least a solid NBA player but relax people and try to remember that he's going to have to play on the wing in the NBA due to his height and remember he just won't be able to bully everyone in the NBA as tons of guys can physically bang with him. We'll likely never see a phenom at LBJs level in our lifetimes.

While I agree with the premise, you'll have to point out the plenty of guys that can physically bang with him. Cause I don't see that. Anyone that's remotely quick enough to cover him in the NBA is simply not going to be able to deal with his power, and anyone with the strength just isn't going to be quick enough. He's not as skilled as Lebron, but he IS stronger and more powerful than Lebron, and that's saying something.

Randle in his sophmore year (2nd year rookie because of that freak accident) was good for 12/10 per game.

I think Zion easily puts up 18+/10+ as soon as he steps on the floor.

Oden was Lebron level as a prospect and arguably higher. It's unfortunate we never got to see what could have been.

Durant obliterated everyone while putting up the best college freshman numbers we've likely ever seen, and most teams still had Oden above him in the draft.

So his height and weight doesn’t cause concern to anyone? He’s close to 300 lbs now. No one is concerned that he will struggle with his weight as his body matures?

The bottom line is that Zion just carried Cam and RJ kicking and screaming into the ACC Final. Zion is a legit number one overall pick. I wouldn't take Cam or RJ in the top 10. Those guys aren't winning players.

I have absolutely no idea why teams like the Cavs etc even remotely try to win games.
I'd do whatever for just one more ping pong ball if it means getting Zion.
Dude is scary good.

And that includes Zion not seeing the ball for large chunks of the game as his fellow starters did their best to literally chuck the game away.

Zion is the next face of the NBA.

He is the heir apparent to King James.

Book it.

I was still more convinced of Doncic last June than I am with Zion right now. I also think Zion could be great but I think Doncic was more of a sure thing.

Still it seems to me that a guy that heavy that plays above the rim it’s inevitable that his body will fail him at some point.

Lebron is 6'9" with incredible durability, great vision, and worked his butt off to be a good shooter from range.

Long way to go buddy.

coldfish wrote:He is so far outside the norm that its nearly impossible to project him. The one thing that really sticks out is that he is off ball dominant. That is to say, he isn't pounding the ball and having the entire team run through him. There is a long highlight reel of him online and something like 90% of the plays are ones where he has the ball for less than 2 seconds.

I think that if a team tries to run their entire offense through him, they will be disappointed. If someone else runs the offense and Zion just is free to run around and get quick post ups, lobs, catch and drive, etc. stuff I think he will put up big numbers on huge efficiency and have epic on off based numbers but at the same time, he will have a vocal group of detractors who call him out for not being a traditional isolation scorer.

I strongly disagree with those who don't think he has a good basketball IQ. For his age, its off the charts and yeah, his motor is crazy too. I have been watching basketball for a very long time and never seen anything like him.

Great post. I actually think he can become an elite iso scorer by improving his handles a bit, his combination of speed, power and touch along with an above average playmaking ability will be impossible to contain.
