Spencer Hawes
Apparently he's in the best shape of his life, and killing it for the Lakers G League affiliate. Not sure how the rules work with the G League, but if we can grab him we should.
He can hit the 3, he is boys with Blake, and I'd argue he brings more to the table than Zaza. Drop Jose, sign Spencer....thoughts?

Re: Spencer Hawes
I am getting sick of Zaza at this point as he seems to be glued to the ground at 35. He can't make athletic plays anymore. I'd be fine with trying out another option.

Re: Spencer Hawes
Zaza is great at setting a hard screen...and that's about it. He's the ideal goon to bring in for a hard foul, but he's clearly a 3rd string center at best.
May be wrong, but I think Hawes is NBA All-time leader in 3s for a Center.

I think between Zaza/Leuer/Maker we're fine at big men depth. It's not worth paying the tax for a GLeague player. So not gonna happen.

I get Maker, but Luer/Zaza?
I know Spencer isn't exactly a world-beater, but having another 3-point shooter his size is way more valuable than those two.

This is a joke right? He hasn't played an NBA game in 2 years and his last good season was 5 years ago.

There is a reason why he isn't in the league and Leuer/Zaza are.

He could become marginally useful around Christmas time.

Why didn't he play last year, again, for the first time?

Might as well call up Josh Harrelson from Japan if we're looking for Hawes type guys.

Re: Spencer Hawes
According to Woj, other teams have him on their radar. If we can take a flyer on him, and it only costs us Olé Calderon, why not?
In today's NBA, I'd take a Hawes or Harrleson over Zaza every day....Zaza and Jon were just in the right place at the right time, and everything is situational. Zaza getting 3 second violations and flopping every possession is great, but I'd rather have a taller/younger dude shooting corner threes on this team.

Re: Spencer Hawes
Honestly I think we need someone behind Dre that is going to dig in and battle for rebounds more than anything. When Dre is on the bench our rebounding is *terrible*. So while I get the want of a big who can stretch the floor, I think we need to rely on other people in the 2nd unit to do that (Luke, Langston, Thon, etc).
Zaza might not be the best answer, but I think as a rebounder he is better than anyone else on our team outside of Dre and Blake (neither of whom are on the floor).
This is where we really miss a guy like AT.

Really good point. Because everything ain't always about shooting 3's. Rebounding is a real problem on this team but you just don't see it play out as much because Dre is generational.Invictus88 wrote:Honestly I think we need someone behind Dre that is going to dig in and battle for rebounds more than anything. Re: Spencer Hawes
not sure if you mean for this season or next, but I believe the deadline has passed for him to be playoff eligible if he were added now.

Re: Spencer Hawes
FWIW, he actually would be playoff eligible because he wasn't on a NBA roster past March 1st. You could sign the day before the playoffs start and still be eligible, you just can't be cut by a team after March 1st and then be eligible for another team.
