He is a good enough/decent defender and much better than Rondo, however, he is a below average shooter.
Lebron's teams have been top 5 in ORTG-Offensive rating when he has very good shooters/floor spacers. But yes, being able to defend is a must too. I would take a good serious look at good/consistent 3pt shooters like Darren Collison and Seth Curry if they can defend decently.

I don't think i've ever been disappointed with Caruso over the last 2 years. As a matter of fact, he's always played at a backup point guard level. He needs to be on the roster next year.

I love this guy. He's a Laker - actually, he's an old-school Celtic ... which is high praise.

Imagine how we'd be feeling if Caruso had played Hart's minutes this year.

For two years, Earvin and Rob and Klutz have been trying to sell us “manna from heaven.”

While not rewarding true talent with opportunity. Sad to see the clowns drag the Lakers down to the gates of Hades.

But turn up the AC, dude is a bat out of hell.

Yeah we gotta lock him up stat. Hopefully he shows loyalty and lets us sign him to a four year on the cheap. He reminds me a bit of when we had Kent Bazemore just reaching his groove and we let him slip through our fingers. He's a quality player that goes hard on defense every play, we need this to build a stable winning roster.

Yeah, he's a good backup, I think you have to use the final roster spot on him next year

He's a natural basketball player, the doubt was whether he could shoot well enough to unlock the remaining aspects of his game. He's shooting 53% on 45 attempts so far this season compared to 30% on 43 attempts last season. So if his norm is somewhere in between around the 38% mark, he could be a quality NBA player.

He's always been a net +ve player, +2.5 on-off last season and +7.3 on-off so far this season.

I don't see him as a backup at all. He's something like Tyreke Evans, who can get you a nightly 15-5-5, except he'll get those numbers with better efficiency and without dominating the ball.

Alex Caruso may not have a singular elite talent, yet, but he is one of the most complete guards. He's got everything: size, athleticism, handle, driving and finishing ability, etc.

And of course he can hit threes (42% NBA career) and free throws. And how would that have helped our season?

On top of that, high basketball IQ, unselfishness, work ethic (greatly improved upon his rookie year), and leadership.

He's a multidimensional, versatile modern player who would also have thrived under Phil Jackson and Tex's triangle as well as Pop's Spurs: he's certainly over himself, and you can't say that about most of the players on our team.

No, I don't see him as a 20+ scorer so I doubt he'll ever make an all-star game. But he doesn't see the game that way and he doesn't play that way. He's just a pure basketball player, and you can see how seriously he takes his job, and how much he cares about the game to keep grinding and working to make it in this league, without losing the unselfishness and joy he has for his teammates.

I think he embodies what Luke Walton envisioned for our team, in some ways what the Warriors were (pre-Durant).

I would have liked to see what a lineup of Lonzo, Caruso, Ingram, Kuzma, and Zubac could have done over the year, without any agendas except for getting better and playing the right way.
