Re: Joel Embiid - The Prophecy is Realized
Embiid should never play a back-to-back again. Simply not worth the injury risk.
He's an amazing player - and the biggest improvement that can happen to his overall contribution is ensuring his health.

Yeah, hopefully we have the game in hand and can rest some of the guys by the end, but if it is going down to the wire we need to go for the win.

They've got a pretty good handle on home court. It might even be more advantageous to face Milwaukee in the 2nd round rather than Toronto. So playing everyone very limited minutes and likely losing to Charlotte, then hopefully beating Boston the following night should be the desired conclusion. Even going 0-2 isn't going to knock them down to 5. They will finish ahead of Indy.
Securing homecourt is only one of the goals. The other goal is avoiding Boston in the first round. Getting the 3 seed is hugely important.
I'd be surprised if Indiana doesn't finish 5th.

Having embiid play back to back games on the road (at San Antonio where sixers got blown out and embiid looked sloppy, at Memphis again embiid looked sloppy , even the lowly knicks game where embiid didn’t look great but had great stats). These are wasted games. More unnecessary wear and tear. Target games played per season should be 65-68 at this point.
His body can’t handle 72-75 games a season. It doesn’t need to.
The goal is to deliver him healthy for playoffs.

I agree with your line of thinking. My only concern is how that impacts our seeding, because it'd sure be nice to have HCA as a #1 or #2 seed for once.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Bona/Watford/Barlow
Embiid/Drummond/Broome

If we have a competent coach, we would be perennial 1-2 seed with Simmons, Harris, Butler (or his replacement) and 60 Embiid games.ProcessDoctor wrote:kuclas wrote:FlyingArrow wrote:Embiid should never play a back-to-back again. Simply not worth the injury risk.

Indy does not have a good chance of getting back up to 3, they have a killer schedule the rest of the way. It's fairly safe to say they will be the 5th seed.

Ok, good. I don't care about Indiana though. I want to avoid Boston.

I don’t get this fear of Boston.
Exclude game 1 and game 4 (Boston won and sixers one). The other 3 games came down to the wire
Even the last two games this regular season. Games comes down to the wire.
Being in someone “heads” means they eventually give up and lose big. Sixers aren’t losing big. They lose cause of blown calls or stupid mistakes. Or Boston simply making the plays they need to make.
We know what Boston is doing on defense.
Aka using cheat defender from Simmons or even tj to slide over to cover embiid if needed. Almost like an illegal defense.
Can embiid recognized it? Maybe embiid can’t. Maybe he can’t pass well yet.
He’s got butler and Harris now who can cut to the rim and take defenders off the dribble in any fake double team situation. The cheat defender won’t have time to think.
That’s why butler was so mad by 4th quarter. Embiid has got to recognize the quasi double team and pass out. And most importantly pass out quickly. Ball movement.

alot of teams can't neutralize or slow down embiid. but if you can, then you can beat the sixers in a playoff series. celtics did last year.
simmons, imho, isn't that tough to slow down in the playoffs. but that's why you traded for butler and harris - so you have some guys that you hope can perform if those two are neutralized.
now it's a matter of everyone stepping up and brown executing an effective game plan.
any one of mil/tor/phi/bos can make it to the finals and any one can beat the other in a playoff series.

I don't want to avoid Boston, I want to beat them, winning the east without beating them will feel empty after all the times they beat us, we need to show convincingly that we can beat them and that they are not our kryptonite.

It would feel great to eliminate Boston, but winning the East would absolutely not feel empty without it..

Indy is 5. So if the Sixers are 4, Boston would be 3. Still avoided.

Ok, that’s true, but we still obviously want the 3rd seed. I think of Indiana as a bigger threat to catching us in the standings, but Boston a bigger threat to us in the playoffs.

Indy may lose another 5 in a row. It’s just a brutal schedule they have. They got lucky to beat okc at home last week after okc blew a 18 point lead. But okc was on 2nd End of back to back road games.
Since oladipo injury. Indiana has only won a total of 2 games against teams with winning records. And one of them was the LA lakers at home when lakers were barely avoid .500.
Indy plays hard. They just don’t have the star player to get them buckets when they beed it.

He's averaging 30 and 17 since returning, like legit.
