helluva drop for Little and Reddish. Haven't followed Porter much but seeing him in that tier 3, near top 5 after blowing out his knee and missing his entire soph season kind of shows how much of a shtshow this draft is outside of Zion. IIRC, he was in the late lotto last year before withdrawing.

Interesting read though. Your boy Clarke getting recognition in the top 5 but the fact that he's in there with Porter has me questioning their rankings here.

Porter was pretty popular last year but pulled out of the draft. But yeah, this draft is nothing like last year's. Jontay was probably right outside top 10 last year before pulling out, and the top 10 was stacked... https://www.thestepien.com/2018-individual-rankings/

But this is a composite ranking based on 6 guy's individual rankings and their average since their individual rankings can differ so much in places.

These guys break down so much game tape and do more analysis than any other sites out there so I think it's pretty good stuff.

So you're just not high on Jontay so you don't think it's a very good ranking? I've always liked Jontay but would probably stay away from him due to injury and his brother's injury.

I was very high on Jontay last year when he looked like a super young big with some good NBA level skills (although below NBA physicals). I did think he made the right decision to go back to college for another year to get into shape. But if he stuck in the draft, I thought he was would be an amazing value pick if he was to drop down. I don't like him nearly as much now because of his injuries as you've mentioned. That and his brother's injury just makes me think the Porter lineage might just be injury prone.

I question the ranking in that tier 3 because they have Jontay (who was in the late lotto last season) there despite being out the entire season. So for him to somehow rise almost to the top 5 despite being a late lotto guy last season and red shirting the whole season just has me questioning it.

But it also just shows how much worse this draft is compared to last year

Meanwhile, Howard has been incredible during his junior season. The 5’11” guard is averaging 25.0 points, 4.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 33.6 minutes per game. He’s shooting 42.4 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from 3-point range. He’s a prolific scorer who dropped 45 points twice this season and hung 53 on Creighton back in January.

Howard is from Gilbert (#ValleyBoy), one of the top scorers in the NCAA, one of the top 3 point shooters as well. His skills will be on display Thursday as he goes head to head with Ja Morant in one of the most looked forward to matches in the Tourney.

Mid 2nd round pick BTW.........

Awesome find. I was mentioning Coby White with the same idea. But overall, despite his size, getting a sharpshooter such as this with Arizona ties would be great!!! You and a few others on this platform seem to have eyes for unique, undiscovered talents need to be communicating with the scouts for the suns for sure. Most likely couldn't hurt for them to hear some ideas on prospects from knowledgable fans who are tuned in to our franchise I think.

By the way, what are your thoughts on Coby White, And Eric Pascal as end of the first round(White)/ and 2nd round ( Paschall)prospects for added bench depth???

I really like this guys' shooting by the way..........Would be nice to bomb away from the 3 again with accuracy honestly.

Coby White: A 6'5 combo guard.

43% fg percentage/ 36% on threes/ 81% on free throws.

Eric Paschall: 6'9 255lb. Forward.

45% fg percentage/ 35.7% on his threes/76% on free throws.

I actually like Coby quite a bit. I like him more than Garland and Tre Jones, both PG's ranked as higher than him and expect to be drafted much sooner than him. I think one of the best Comparisons i have seen for him is Gilbert Arena's. He is a tall Combo-guard (Pretty much a SG playing the PG role), with solid court vision....but only decent passing skills. Ive actually watched 4 or 5 Tarheel games and he definitely stands out from the rest (Him and my favorite 2nd round target Cameron Johnson).

As for Paschall, truth be told i really know nothing about him. I watched 2 Villanova games so far and he really didnt stand out to me.....to a point i didnt even know he was on the team. If we are looking for an older SF/PF player, Carmeron Johnson is a MUUUUCH better option. While he doesnt have the 3 point shooting that Paschall supposedly has, he has it in every other aspect of the game while also having a leadership mentality that is hard to find in college players.

Pretty much my favorite guys in the non lotto so far are Coby White, Bol-Bol (If he somehow slips past #15), Cam Johnson, Markus Howard, Ethan Happ. Im still on the fence with Shamorie Ponds.

Happ is an interesting player. A big beefy 6"10 PF from Wisconson, he is a defensive juggernaut, but also one of the best passing PF's in the NCAA. Seriously, he averages more assists than most of the college PG's do (5.2 assists per36 which is right in line with what Tre Jones gets a night dumping the ball off to the 3 scoring machines at Duke). Happ lacks a 3 point shot, but its very very very very rare to find a player that checks ALL of the boxes, with 3 point shooting being really the only one left unmarked.

Did you know we had a draft thread where we discuss the prospects? Stepien came out with rankings today and Coby White was ranked 9th. Paschall ranked 53. I posted link in the draft thread earlier.

Cam johnson:6'9 210 lbs. He's a great shooter with a smooth overall game for a guy his size. And is really working on improving his defense too.

50%fg percentage/ 46% 3 pt. percentage/ 80% free throw percentage.

Eric Paschall: 6'9 255 lb. Forward ( could be our Draymond Green) in the 2nd round.

Paschall is like a high IQ, versatile, energy big. He's built like Draymond Green,a versatile defender that makes the tough plays, and hits the big shots. He's like Draymond, But with a really good 3 point shot. And would be a good low cost replacement on the bench, Should Holmes be too costly. I also like that he's played with Mikhail Bridges, Is familiar with, and has chemistry with him too.

Lastly, As far as international players, with good shooting and a smooth all around floor game go.......

Luka Samanic: A 6'10 215 lb. Power Forward. He's a great shooter, really good ball handler, And to me reminds of a mix of Nikola Mirotic and Andrei Kirilenko athletically. He's another absolute steal for us as a floor stretching big, with an advanced game that can be had cheap into the 2nd round.

So many quality players that are under the radar still, If the scouts for the suns are doing their research, We could add much better depth going into free agency I believe.

I feel like Ghost probably does the most college scouting out of all of us here. Scouting players that I quite frankly couldn't give 2 **** about. In a strong draft, I only care about the top 15 (or around where we pick) and in a weak probably only the top 5 but Ghost goes deeeeeeeeep

Keep it up!

Thanks,

I'd definitely hope we could find a steal or two for added bench depth and potency, that would be on 2nd round rookie contracts to boot If possible. Hopefully allowing us to spend the majority of our limited cap space on higher priced difference making vets, instead of role player vets that we might settle on instead.

Also,I'm afraid that's the beauty and the curse of having too much time on my hands currently, And not being able to sleep much...lol... :tooth Just anxious for the draft and free agency I guess man. Since our season basically ended a while back. Kind of wish we could just fast forward to next season, to hopefully enjoy the improvement to the roster and with respect to the chemistry. :D

I really think that their "Due Diligence" is waiting for us here on the board to our due diligence and collect all the info and do the scouting, then they read the board and start copying us and using us for notes/stats/facts/strats/etc.

For real, I am the Suns Head of Scouting right now along with you being Head of European/Foreign prospects.

Yeah, Garland seems to be the one that has the most range on stepien...and pulled down by two absurdly low rankings....one really low. But I know one of those.

This guy looks like he might be a decent follow for the draft...though just came across him. https://twitter.com/Pesquerj
