Re: Fanbase Rookie Approval Rating: Kevin Huerter
The Atlanta Hawks can use Bradley Beal and Zach LaVine as models for Kevin Huerter’s offensive development
The rookie wing can use the last month of the season to develop his ball handling and passing in pick-and-roll

Which would explain why he's Thomas Jr...

Re: Fanbase Rookie Approval Rating: Kevin Huerter
Bleacher ReportAtlanta Hawks Rookie Kevin Huerter Already Plays Like Trae Young's Splash Bro
The Hawks (24-47) are not shy about their current rebuilding status and are out of the playoff picture this season. But they're stacked with promising young talent, especially in a backcourt featuring Huerter and Trae Young.
he's been inserted into the starting lineup and has traded all the nervous energy for unadulterated swagger.
"He's got a lot of swag," Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce said. "He's got a lot of confidence..."
Huerter, who has improved quietly and without fanfare, is starting to draw comparisons to Klay Thompson, who joins Stephen Curry as one half of the Splash Brothers. That may prove useful, considering the rookie believes Atlanta's general manager Travis Schlenk, formerly Golden State's assistant GM, is using the Warriors as "the new blueprint for winning."
Sure, comparisons between Golden State's Splash Brothers and the Fire and Ice backcourt duo he forms with Young have been somewhat premature. The former Maryland standout still finds motivation in the assertions.
"We definitely look at that as being high praise," he said. "Me and Trae at some point want to do it a little differently, obviously, to become a championship-caliber team. But it's definitely high praise to be mentioned with those guys. "
Atlanta's coaching staff and his teammates have embraced Huerter, to the point they're auditioning nicknames. The team knows him as K-Von. For those outside the locker room, Red Velvet has become popular.
The season isn't over yet, so this rookie will undoubtedly experience more special moments and continue to make a name for himself in the NBA, whether as K-Von, Red Velvet or another of his favorites: Professor Hurt.

The legend grows. This is pretty fierce to watch in real time...even if he reportedly double dribbled before the bucket.

Just erased a full page. Drat.
Compare Kevin H. and the Dallas' Lue Skywalker, not today but in the future.
Being a homer, I like the thought that we have our own Great One.

I'm haunted. Just erased me again.
Give Kevin a couple of years and he will give that Dallas rookie a run for his money.
This home boy believes this.

Re: Fanbase Rookie Approval Rating: Kevin Huerter
The AthleticKevin Huerter thinks he deserves a spot on All-Rookie teams, and his coach agrees
The thought was that perhaps Huerter needed to spend time in Erie with the team’s G League affiliate to get meaningful reps.
Huerter pointed to the third game of the season as the moment he finally found a bit of confidence. He made his first career 3-pointer against Cleveland that night and remembers taking a deep breath as he backpedaled on defense.
He’s now one of two rookies (Luka Doncic being the other) with at least 120 3s, 200 rebounds, 50 steals and 20 blocked shots. He’s in the top five in 3s made and in the top 10 in assists, steals and total points. Among the rookies who’ve played at least 15 minutes per game, he is third in offensive rating and seventh in net rating.
Opposing teams ignored Huerter in the beginning of the season and left him open when Trae Young would drive to the basket. Now, they actively game-plan for him.
There’s still lots of room for Huerter to grow. Pierce hopes Huerter becomes more aggressive, especially when attacking the paint.
“I feel like what I have done over the course of the year should be enough,” Huerter said. “...For what I have shown though, I feel like I deserve it.”

Just belatedly wanted to say I don't want Huerter using Zach LaVine as a role model for anything. LaVine has been more empty numbers for his career to date than the all-around stud I'd like Kevin to develop into. If LaVine ever starts playing D then let's talk.

That dunk on Butler was a thing of beauty. I still have no idea how he was able to finish it.

If he can get stronger this summer then I think we'll see a significant jump in his performance next season. He has the size, athleticism, and handles to be a real threat around the basket. Just needs to be stronger and more confident to finish the play or get fouled. Would obviously help defensively as well. He lets guys get around him too easily.

Re: Fanbase Rookie Approval Rating: Kevin Huerter
When NBA commissioner Adam Silver went to the podium and announced the 19th overall pick during the 2018 draft, Kevin Huerter found out he would be joining the Atlanta Hawks.
During Hurter’s rookie season, he helped form one of the best young cores in all of basketball. After a rough 6-20 start to the season, the Hawks would cement themselves as one of the most entertaining teams in the league.
Headlined by rookies Trae Young, Huerter, and second-year man John Collins, the Hawks became one of the league’s highest-scoring teams in the league after the All-Star break. They even finished the season a respectable 10-13.
On the court they are ahead of schedule.
“There was a long period where we were playing really well, and it just felt better,” Huerter said. “Even the games we were losing we could look back and there was really like one or two plays that had gone differently that the outcome of the game would have been different.”
Through all the ups and down of the team on the floor, rookie life in the NBA, and everything else life can throw at a 20-year-old, Huerter had a fantastic rookie season. He averaged nearly 10 points per game, shot 39 percent from three, and was named to the All-Rookie second team.
An impressive accolade, especially for someone picked outside of the lottery. Now, there are expectations from himself and everyone else.
