The pissing contest continues. If I ever spend a significant amount of time trying to prove someone wrong on this forum please God beat the hell out of me because something wrong has gone wrong in my life. And ive been way more wrong than right about anything regarding this team.

This will be my last post on here. I won’t be able to post here anymore after midnight since the green light has been given for me to be banned. To the very few real ones I just wanted to say that I’ll miss you and it’s been fun. I wish the city of Charlotte the best of luck.
Taking my talents to the Brooklyn Nets. Goodbye!

Just give it some time, Mitch can turn us into the Brooklyn Nets.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

If Kemba could just fake an injury, we could get this season over with. I mean how loyal is the guy if he can't fake an injury?

Aww man, it’s about to get ugly. Imagine the current Phoenix Suns but worse. Easily the worst team in the league next year unless the Knicks strike out on every big name free-agent they pursue.
Assuming Kemba Walker, Jeremy Lamb and Frank Kaminsky leave after the season, here are the key holdovers:
Nicolas Batum
Bismack Biyombo
Miles Bridges
Willy Hernangomez
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Malik Monk
Tony Parker
Marvin Williams
Cody Zeller
(lottery selection)
At least with Phoenix, there are a core of players with substantial upside or production (Deandre Ayton, Devin Booker) and some promising young wing players (Mikal Bridges, Josh Jackson, Kelly Oubre, T.J. Warren), albeit the Suns have an overload of them. Miles Bridges and Monk have not shown to have anywhere near the production potential of Ayton and Booker, are worse than Oubre and Warren and seem to have the same or less upside than Mikal Bridges and Jackson.
Moreover, the Hornets will have a collective $90 million to this team in 2019-20 (I guess Batum and Kidd-Gilchrist supporters will get a heavy dose of them in the rotation next season). The damning thing is this team has no real upside or the idea of hope to promote to fans. At least teams such as Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix can sell the idea of young talent developing down the road. Cleveland could be worse than Charlotte, provided the Cavaliers do not land Zion Williamson in the draft.

So, yeah, the Hornets will be in a bad spot if Kemba leaves and no one opts out (and odds are that everyone will opt in). I would even say that with no moves or good signing the team would likely be worse than Cleveland.
But I'm still against the idea of trying to tank again. I would much rather try the Clippers model and get a few scrappy vets and try to develop young guys while playing hard and winning more than 20 games.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Who would be our best player if Kemba and Lamb both leave?
It cant be Nic? Can it? Pretty sure the 7 win team would win in a series against that.

Very easy to look at all of this and see why Kemba would leave, and in fact it would seem almost crazy on his part to not get away from that mess. Don't get me wrong, I hope he stays and Mitch can make good use of cap space in the summer of 2020 and 2021

In that scenario, I think I would do all I could to discourage Nic from picking up that final year of his contract. Sit him on the bench and only play him in an injury or foul trouble situation. Though, he probably would be fine sitting there and collecting those checks

if Kemba and Lamb . . . and MKG and Frank . . . are not resigned, doesn't that free $35 M in cap space?

Really the Hornets need Kemba to leave to start the rebuild when the bad contracts are finally gone. He is actually a good solid player but with this roster not worth anywhere near the max. I would like to see us keep Lamb provided his new contract is reasonable. The problem with the rebuild is that the current young players have not shown much so that is a concern and could slow the rebuild. The Hornets are in a difficult situation.

More like $20 mil if I'm looking at things correctly. However if MKG opts in, and he probably will, then that's roughly $7 mil in cap room.

Re: If kemba leaves, whats the plan?
Any cap space freed up by Kemba/Lamb/etc leaving should be used to help a team dump contracts for draft compensation. A lot of teams are going to be trying to open up space to make their Super Team dreams come true, if we could take on a year or two of dead money for a young player or pick that would be ideal.

We start bringing in reclamation projects. That has been a large part of the Nets success and they were in a worse position than we will be in whether Kemba leaves or not.

Re: If kemba leaves, whats the plan?
Nets did a masterful job. Pretty sad that 4 years ago they were in the **** with one of the bleakest futures in NBA history and four years later they are in a much better position than the Hornets who were actively trying to be good. Whatever, numb to the pain by now.

Re: If kemba leaves, whats the plan?
sign rfa Emmanual Mudiay age 23 away from NYK who will presumably be focused on Dennis Smith, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant
this generation of PGs is 6'5 not 6'1; Mudiay brings size & physicality to draw fouls at game end
look at his numbers this yr not so bad
I'd target EMu to be Charlotte's next PG
