Wow. I hope they get good because it's a shame if a generational talent becomes buried his whole career

Mike trout: 12 years $430 million

Post#3 » by bringWallyBack » Wed Mar 20, 2019 1:37 am

I know this is a NBA forum but that's an insane amount of money.

He literally can produce his own Marvel movie

Alright alright to make it into an nba topic I have two questions:

1) Which active player would be worth that contract and that amount right now?

2) since we have hindsight, at what point in Lebron's career after his rookie contract would he had been worth that contract?

That is an insane contract. And with incentive I believe o saw he could get up to 450.
I had to jump off the boat to walk on water.

AD had a 240/5 contract in his table this summer and he turned down.

Nobody's worth it now. Lebron would have been right after his rookie deal (so paying for 2007-2019). For the NBA it's just impossible to pay a guy that long with shorter careers and a salary cap.

One injury away from, well, a disaster. Those contracts shouldn’t exist.

Yep, which blows that Trout contract out of the water. AD could have been eating lobster.

I mean it equates to more than 570 million over the 12 years.

That's a steal for the Angels. Mike Trout is the best player in the game by a distance, and well on his way to GOAT status. He's like everything LeBron stans desperately wish LeBron was.

Still underpaid. And A-Rod got a contract worth more than that twice taking into account inflation.

I don't understand these crazy baseball contracts. Lots can happen in 12 years and Trout is about to turn 28 in the summer. Why lock yourself into it for more than a decade? This is where NBA shows being a better run league. 4-5 years should be the absolute max.

I dont get why baseball teams give those contracts. it never works.

and on NBA. I think a few players would be worth it (on a yearly salary basis) but you cant give NBA players a decade long contract, thats asking for trouble.

Surprised that guy didn't push for something shorter time-wise with a larger AAV, he could get something like a 5/270 and then if he stays healthy and good he can still get 7/160 then, which front loads the cash flow and is more advantageous.

On a per year basis Canelo Alvarez deal with DAZN is higher. This deal is 12yrs and it is bonkers in it's totality tho.

I'm pretty sure AD can afford all the lobster he wants right now.

Because having the greatest player of this generation for 12 years is better than 1.

Long deals like this can be good for teams to, they don't have to worry about losing them in 3 years if the team is terrible.

I can’t think of anyone worth a 12 year contract in the NBA. Even the guys who have had long star-level careers start to slow down around age 33...and those guys are really rare. Like said above, maybe LeBron after he was a rookie, but he’s had almost unprecedented longevity and health.

And good lord - can you imagine the trade demands and sitting out hissy fits if guys were on 12 year contracts???? These guys can’t even do 4 years out of 5 before wanting out cause it is “their time” and they are dissatisfied w/ something. And they doesn’t consider someone getting injured.

How does baseball work? Is that money guaranteed if he gets hurt?

In MLB, standard is $10mn per year per 1 WAR.

Trout averages 8.5 WAR a year, he's underpaid by about 50%.

He's that good...
