Penny didn't play defense?

I vaguely remember penny stole on jordan in the playoffs the year we got our asses handed to us by houston

I think that was Nick Anderson with the big steal.

Nah, almost no 3rd year players picked in first round ever play SL . Hell not even second round picks play it.

It was Nick... smh. I hate being an aging, lifelong Magic fan. I watched that moment live.

Hah, "MF".
Motha...

to me dj has been good ,solid for 2 yrs so...no...now brisco?

Yeah. Dj has been steady for the past 2 years. Never understood the hate he got especially last year. He was like the lone player who could create his own shot for our second unit and people were calling off as a chucker. He really was a big part of our strong start last year too.

Briscoe has been solid since the start. I think everyone saw this coming, It was only a matter of that he would takeover the reins from Jerian.

Some of the criticisms are certainly residual from his first season with Orlando. He probably had the strongest case for being the worst player in the NBA that season.

My criticisms are in his inability to create offense and that he is among the worst defenders in the entirety of the NBA.

He over-dribbles aimlessly because he has to rely on craft and guile, as opposed to explosiveness, to navigate in the halfcourt. This means that he seldom draws help defenders or opens up passing lanes. His vision and passing accuracy are both poor. He has an off guard's skill set, but his physical tools are among the most limited in the NBA; even when considered relative only to point guards.

To his credit, he is among the best shooters in the NBA and he has improved substantially at finishing around the basket. He has become adept at running the pick and roll with Vucevic, but that combination gives back everything that they gain (and then some) at the defensive end against any team that has a competent point guard.

Augustin's shooting efficiency metrics are impressive, but he is still a liability on the court because his low usage mitigates the benefits of that efficiency and because he is an abomination at the defensive end. Aside from being undersized and unathletic, his defensive effort is inconsistent. He also gets caught behind the play with some regularity because he goes to the ground behind the baseline almost every time he drives to the basket. This forces other players to stop the ball in transition and creates unfavorable cross switches and general havoc to our defense.

The point guard spot is still our most glaring weakness. Until we see some actual evidence that Fultz is worth committing minutes to, we should be aggressive in looking for long-term solutions to our point guard problem.

haha no worries. that game was the first I ever saw on TV (europe...we got nothin') --- not a bad place to start to foster unreasonable expectations in a young kid like me.

Steve Clifford doesn't think we'll see Markell this year:

Some new info in that clip regarding the injury. At this point, his recovery is all I care about. This team is hopeless with a star.

The only way I see Weltman and Hammond keeping their jobs for a while is if Fultz pans out. Not because what we gave up for him, but because I don't see how else this team magically gets good without Fultz becoming the player everyone thought he would be when he was drafted.

Bingo... sort of..

I don't think the outcome of Markelle Fultz will make or break their jobs, but I agree -- this team has no signs of getting better or improving unless, as of right now, he breaks out into the star he was projected to be.

How else are we supposed to get better when we literally make NO MOVES every YEAR and keep the SAME SET of GUYS that contributing to our losing culture.

Your GIF didn't even make the "Top 10 Plays of the Day"...I'm still stunned at that.

Deals are hard to make, nobody wants to lose and we're not getting any big FA's (even if we had money) until we get a lot better. Fultz, if he works out, will be their legacy move...If he doesn't, I honestly don't know if the NBA community even notices ORL continuing to flounder. I would welcome a blockbuster if WAS or POR decides to tap out and tear it down (BB, CJ) but, outside of that opportunistic pounce, we're going to grow slowly and safely, IMO

The trade for Fultz, even if it’s a complete failure, won’t cost management their job. So far they’ve done exactly what they have promised. I can’t see the DeVos family being upset that we’re finally chasing a playoff spot again. If we lose Ross and Vooch and see a drop off next year that could change the narrative. Bamba is a much bigger piece in their evaluation.

We need stability. I dont want our front office feeling like they are on a hotseat and need to make decisions in order to protect their future. If i was ownership, id guarantee them like 5 years minimum, give them a huge amount of freedom, and let them get to work. You either trust your front office guys or you shouldnt have them. The in between hot seat way of doing things never works and always leads to short sighted moves along the lines of what we saw with Hennigan in his closing year.

He has spent much of the past four months in Los Angeles working with Los Angeles-based therapist Judy Seto, formerly the Head Physical Therapist of the Los Angeles Lakers and currently a consultant with Major League Baseball’s Dodgers. Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman visited Fultz in L.A., as did several staffers on the medical team to assist with his rehabilitation upon his return to Orlando.

Fultz raved about the improvement he’s made physically and said he’s gradually being allowed to do more and more work on the basketball court in addition to his rehabilitation work.

On December 4th, the Philadelphia 76ers issued a press release stating that Markelle Fultz was identified as having Thoracic outlet syndrome, and that he would begin physical therapy immediately and is out indefinitely. Following that announcement, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweeted out that Fultz would be working through his physical therapy with Dr. Judy Seto, who is most famous in NBA circles for being Kobe Bryant’s “secret weapon”.
