Thanks for explaining what this guys does.

Baseball is just for USA I guess ;)

Baseball can play well into their 40s though big difference

that's because it's a sport where you're literally just standing around doing nothing the majority of the time...let's be honest.

While we both agree that AOC is a comedian/politician, but saying Mike Trout just swing a piece of wood? He brings value to a company, likely will generate 500 million dollars in revenue for the team within his first half of the contract. That itself makes this contract justifiable.

Compare this situation with "the unemployment rate is low because everyone has two jobs" is

I almost thought this was about a fisherman. I really see no problem with this if that's what the market dictated for him to earn. He's the only one who can do what he does. I would never give an NBA player that much because of injuries.

I agree. I oversimplified it, but I understand the business value for the Angels. Still.....we have people that teach kids reading and writing and math and they are paid next to nothing....ultimately what Trout does is swing a piece of wood for society and he gets $430 million. To quote the immortal Sgt. Barnes from Platoon, "There's the way it ought to be, and there's the way it is".....

There have been a handful of these mega-long term deals in the MLB before and not a single one has panned out. Hell the Angels have Pujols on their team and they are going to be paying him 30 million for 3 more seasons!

With the tighter salary cap and smaller roster size, one significant injury would sink any team that offered a 12 year deal. I remember when there were 6 and 7 year deals that would just handcuff teams for a loooong time, Eric Dampier is the one I'm thinking of I think.

I also agree about the education system we have in the US is quite messed up. Teacher in every culture is a very respectable profession, but they are being treated like dirt here in the US. Don't want to derail the thread too much, but I hope there will be solution implemented to fix this problem.

Hmm you're complaining about a capitalistic system that allows such a huge disparity between the salary of a teacher/nurturer and an entertainer.

10 years? Are people outside of a handful of markets (LA, NY, Chi, Bos) watching now? Without a Salary Cap, Small Market teams are at a huge disadvantage for the most part (3/4th's of the league are Farm teams). This is why the sport (MLB) has suffered & can't/won't contend with the NFL. The NBA has also surpassed it in popularity thanks to Social Media/Marketing. I believe the average fan is over the age of 50. Younger generations aren't gravitating towards the sport. Baseball will have to adapt or die.

I understand that we are on a basketball forum but are you two serious with this nonsensical baseball bashing? NBA won't surpass MLB in 10 years. If you only listened to people here, you'd think NBA has NFL beat too.

I never understand why alot of us here feel the need to bash other sports in order to lift the NBA. As a mostly non-athlete myself, i respect all athletes in all sports. For baseball, I think people criminally underrate how hard the grind is of 162 games in like 185 days is. Especially when lots of them are played in less than ideal weather. Same goes for Hockey. People bash it all the time, but its incredibly hard to play AND you take a beating. Those guys are tough as nails as you never see guys missing games for "load management" despite the fact that its a violent sport and they play just as many games as the NBA.

All sports are hard especially at the highest level guys.
