Re: NXT Thread II
I'm aware that all wrestling moves are dumb, but I think this one is exceptionally dumb because the practitioners generally work a more realistic style, like Dunne, Bryan and Regal. Why the **** would you not just pull your hand away. What exactly is keeping it in place? This dude even look at his arm in recognition of what was about to happen.
Anybody?

I mean, basically nothing in wrestling makes sense if you think about it. Irish whips are absolutely ridiculous.

Ask Ronda her thoughts on this...
Kobe Bryant was asked who he feels is the toughest opponent to guard in the NBA. Instead of picking OKC's Kevin Durant, Bryant went with Portland’s Brandon Roy.
"Roy 365 days, seven days a week. Roy has no weaknesses in his game."

Wonder if they will go ahead with an Io Shirai heel turn at Takeover NY. She needs one. Badly. Just do the Becky-Charlotte SummerSlam thing where Kairi steals a pin from Io. Or pins Io for the title.

I always wondered this when Undertaker did his "old school rope walk" by hanging onto the other guy's hand.
1) I don't see why that would particularly hurt so I'm not sure what the point of it is.
2) The other guy realizes he can just pull Taker off there just by putting his hand down or walking one pace away from the rope, right?
As improper says, very little of it makes sense anyway. This one just always struck me as especially dumb.

The funny thing is, old school doesn't bother me at all. I think I know why that is:
The Undertaker is such a stupid character to begin with. He's a dang magic zombie, so my brain just accepts it when he does things that favor pageantry over realism. On the other hand, Dunne has conditioned me to believe that he is really hurting people in the ring, so I'm less forgiving when something hits me as silly rather than painful.
It's not a decision I'm making consciously. I like pageantry and realism. They're both good and valid. But sometimes they strike as odd when they seem to be misplaced.

Wrestling Observer awards:NXT won Best Weekly Show(4th time in 6 years), Gargano vs. Ciampa won Feud of the Year, and New Japan's Dominion 6.9 won Best Major Wrestling Show. I thought Takeover New Orleans or War Games could have won Best Major Wrestling Show, but for a newsletter which could be considered biased in favor of Japanese wrestling I'm happy with the results. Dream won Best Gimmick too.

Someone mentioned Dalton Castle coming to NXT this year. Any other wrestlers expected to sign this year?

Finger "manipulation" is what probably makes me cringe more than anything these days in pro rasslin. Back in the day when I was a kid, the WWF had some horriblly cringe-worthy stuff - the Blackjack Mullingan head claw hold - where they'd put a giant X on the tv screen so you wouldn't see blood come out of the mouths of his lifeless victims - this went on for months when the WWF was on for their 1 hour Saturday tv show, and George the Animal Steel (before he was the lovable protector of Miss Elizabeth) typically used a "flying chicken-wing maneuver" to separate the shoulder of his opponent - and 1 partiuclar opponent was apparently able to manipulate his shoulder to look horribly injured - and Steel kept on re-applying the hold on him - as a kid that was the stuff of nightmares.

NXT UK doesn't get much attention here, but they had their first Takeover card a few months ago. Another excellent match involving Moustache Mountain. Starting with the excellent Triple Threat Match in Orlando's Takeover this has been the best two years for tag team wrestling that I can remember. The fact that they haven't used ladders much makes it even more impressive.

You can tell that Trips loves good tag team wrestling, because NXT has had awesome tag matches for years.
Just wish Vince actually cared about it.

Re: NXT Thread II
Shane Strickland, Garza Jr and Kushida (whose already debuted) have been confirmed for NXT.
Kushida (HHH is a huge fan) and Garza Jr will both do really well, Garza will get over and is super young (only 26) and all around will get somewhat of a push for sure, at worst he'll be teamed up with someone and become a tag team champ.
i'm super worried for Strickland though, Swerve is amazing, in NXT he'll be fine (Probably north american champ), on the main roster he could go the way of Rich Swann or EC3 just cause Vince

Re: NXT Thread II
Raws ratings continue dropping. They lose their TV deal. If NXT's house shows don't do very well, I can't imagine it brings in much money for the company. Does WWE get rid of NXT in these circumstances or just reduce the roster?

Re: NXT Thread II
Losing one of their TV deals is realistically the only thing I could see that might get the board to attempt to remove Vince. They're a publicly traded company, so as long as they keep making money, quality is optional. But if the poor quality starts translating to lost money, all bets are off.

Re: NXT Thread II
Vince will never let go. He'd rather go down with a ship his own way than to keep a ship sailing completely someone else's way.
I think it's very probable the roster gets trimmed a lot in the next few years to stop the waste. I can't see the ratings improving. There isn't anyone on the roster right now who is stopping the slide despite going with a bunch of people who are remotely over, and in fact the slide has greatly accelerated in the last 12 months. They clearly won't change their creative standards either.
Vince actually encouraged Bret to leave because he didn't want to pay for him anymore in 1997 and I can see a bunch of midcarders and big names who aren't being used anymore be let go.
I think NXT might be kept around, but much more streamlined. There are a lot of people right now on NXT who just aren't being used.
