Ja Morant looks likes a future star. Best college PG prospect I've seen since... Jason Kidd.

But man there are some horrible posts a few pages back in this thread. I won't name names but the comparison to Terrance Williams was indescribably bad.

He's pretty one-dimensional as an attacker IMO, but having said that he's fantastic in that one area.

Yeah way to early...

First of all, he still doesn’t deserve to be a top 10 pick. He might be one, but only because this draft is so weak. Plus I don’t trust many others evaluations, specifically from ESPN (Even though Draftexpress took over). They tend to be heavily influenced by outside entities and often ride the wave when someone is doing well. They don’t take into account how different the NBA is and what it takes to translate. They still have Romeo Langford too high as well.

At that time I didn’t think he deserved to be a top 10, now I definitely do think he does.

What is he even responding to? I went back two pages and Fischella wasn’t in any of the posts.

If Morant turns out well, how far can a Morant / Booker / Ayton trio go?

Still question about his defense with the above in mind.

Oh god, I hope Morant doesn’t go to the Suns. That would be a distaster for them. He’s not ready to be a starter for a team that wants to instantly make the playoffs as soon as possible (or Booker might demand a trade). They need to get a point guard in free agency and they should trade their pick with other stuff for a star to fit with their core. They already have too many young developing players. Eventually they’re going to have to pay everyone.

if I'm Phoenix and I get Ja, I'm trying to flip Booker (same thing I said about LaVine last few pages).

I know I opened the thread when nobody knew about they guy and I still like Morant but he is gonna get drafted like 15-20 spots too high, still a great story and find to get a 2 star guy that has a chance to be a NBA rotation player, but I am out on him as a high level prospect

Sig worthy. LOL

He had him on his radar before you even heard of him. Also the post you quoted was from November, and there's this post from February:

People do change their minds about prospects over a season as players improve or decline or show new wrinkles/deficiencies to their games.

This type of thing about people "deleting their account" isn't welcome from most of us here, especially for a long-tenured poster like Fis.

Do want this forum to be empty of good posters? Because this is how you get this forum empty of good posters.

Edit: was November 2017

Projecting players isn’t about predicting them, it’s about evaluating them. There are so many factors that go into prediction, like chance, or the difference between projecting the draft order versus success or the ability to grow, get injured, etc. There are questions like if Exum never had injury problems, would he have made more development?

The best evaluators change their minds because they’re constantly asking questions in an effort to understand to the subject IMO. Plus, the start of the season is so freaking far away from the actual time of the draft or the first year of the NBA or even the first three years of a career (how long it usually takes for a player to even get comfortable in the NBA). So the question becomes, what are the factors that bring a player to do well in the NBA. This is why I don’t like ranking in the first place, it becomes some sort of contest instead of a legitimate comversation about how players translate.

makes sense...Booker's actually a really good fit next to Lonzo and LeBron.

Fisichella opened this thread roughly two years ago while even this guy's full name wasn't certain on the net. Even for this, he deserves credit.

When does is extension kick in? I'm asking to see how much cap space they would have after absorbing him.

Could still have enough to field a very good roster.....

kicks in next year @ 27mil.

Lakers would have no problem absorbing it as they would have 35+ mil in cap space.

Let's say they trade Brandon Ingram (assuming he's healthy) + their own first rounder for D-Book.

Lakers would have still about ~17mil to spend to add to LeBron, Booker, Kuzma and Ball.

Phx would have a young squad of Ja, Bridges, Ingram and Ayton + whoever they get with the Lakers pick.

vucevic would be great for 17 mil to spend for but it is highly likely he will get at least 20M
ball
booker
lebron
kuzma
vucevic line would be good even with defensive flaws.
