How many wins would we have with SVG this year?
I am inviting you to partake in pure speculation. IF SVG had still been our coach this year, how would we have done?
In my opinion, I think we'd be roughly the same. SVG always had us playing well when Reggie was healthy. Casey was also slow to get on the Kennard bandwagon, so there wouldn't have been as much progression there. I think Drummond has improved more under Casey, but I think SVG would have been able to get more out of Griffin by diversifying the offense more so Blake didn't get beat down so much on one-on-ones. I'm guessing a similar deal would've been done to ship Stanley Johnson out, although there's no way he would've parted with Bullock.
Casey destroyed us by playing Calderon so much when Ish was hurt. SVG would've never done that. He would've destroyed us by re-signing Jameer Nelson and playing him so much when Ish was hurt.
I've said it elsewhere, I'll say it again - I think they are both good coaches who did/have done a decent job with a very flawed roster.

Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

I think maybe 1 or 2 more wins where we are at now which really is inconsequent at best. Before Blake came in, Dre was playing some of his more complete game especially the passing and initiating the low post action with him. Now it's definitely less of that and more with Blake taking duties.

Team would be drastically different IMO. If he returned the same team I think he would have lost the lockerroom completely and he'd have been fired mid-season anyways. If he came back with an extension it would have been a gong show with a roster overhaul.

I went with essentially the same. Reggie has managed to stay largely upright this year, and that has played a big role. The same roster weaknesses remain and would have impacted chances for success in much the same way. I don't think it's so much about who's coaching as it is just an inferior and unbalanced roster, and that's where the 'crisis' exists.

SVG didn't use Blake the right way when he got here. Blake was also not in season shape when he got here. SVG's players also gave up on playing for him. Casey has this team fighting, he gives his players way more leeway. That counts for 3-5 more wins.

I don’t know how different it would be. SVG coached a healthy Pistons team pre-Blake to 44 wins.

But also in a much weaker Eastern Conference though. And I'm fairly certain that the pairing of SVG with his well-documented history of clashing with diva personalities and Blake would in the drama department would give LeBron and the Lakers the run for their money.

Assuming there wasn't a player revolt or anything.... about the same. It's not like anyone really took a big step foward or backward under casey. The problem is the roster. It really hasn't changed much due to cap constraints.

I suppose it could be argued that we may not have come back late in the season after the bad stretch with Van Gundy.
Hard to know.

I actually don't think so at all. Blake has been a model citizen in DET from day 1. There was even a report around the trade deadline about him being understanding that we are limited with assets this year to upgrade so he has been very patient.

There was also reports that when he heard he was traded, he cursed a storm and was visibly angry.
I mean, who wouldn't be? After being promised to be the face of the franchise after his supermax, to go from always sunny & 70 LA (movie deals, commercials, JORDAN brand) to cold Detroit would shock anyone's system.

It surely seems as if the trade was a reckoning moment for Blake. It shook him, drove to try harder, to be more mature. But tiger can't change his stripes, and the stress of being rejected will eventually wear off. Just in the last night's game Blake almost came to blows with Draymond (Draymond was probably the culprit but it takes two to tango); Blake is still his combustible old self. Then add SVG and his spectacular people's skills a string of bad losses as a catalyst and then ... BOOM!
Casey should be at least given some credit here: the guy knows how to keep a good locker room.

They are both flawed.
The biggest difference is Casey is a glass half full guy, and SVG is a glass half empty guy. The SVG approach annoys players and they tune him out. Players at least always fight for Casey.
We are better with Casey IMO.

I think the perception of SVG's ability as a coach has been tainted by the end of his run as a GM. SVG the coach, with this exact team, isnt a net positive or negative. Lateral move.

Re: How many wins would we have with SVG this year?
Going into this season the Raptor fans were thinking the Pistons were going to lose a dozen more games after replacing Van Gundy with Casey.
Of course they weren't counting on the 3 extra wins that Casey was bringing with him from The North.

Re: How many wins would we have with SVG this year?
I think if we still had SVG:
- we don't trade away Bullock (GM impact)
- Kennard doesn't start to emerge (Coach and GM impact)
- Stanley continues to be in turmoil but still on the roster (Coach and GM impact)
- So no Thon ( Jury still out on impact but I like him so far. I just wish he'd learn to rebound better )
- We don't sign Wayne Ellington who seems to be an upgrade on defense over Bullock (GM impact)
- Reggie doesn't shift to play more of a 2 role where he has really started to thrive (Coach)
- We possibly make some sort of boneheaded big trade for Wall or another overpaid player (GM impact)
So yeah. I think the above is at least a 5 win differential.

Re: How many wins would we have with SVG this year?
I think we’d be worse with SVG, simply because the team likely would have quit on him by midseason. At least Casey seems to inspire these guys more than SVG did.
It’s interesting though that not much has changed with this team by switching up the coach. We’re still inconsistent, racking up nice stretches of wins but having prolonged cold streaks as well. Like last season we started hot and followed it up with a few months of miserable basketball. Luckily this year though we climbed out of the hole, so this might be a testiment to Casey for maintaining calm and salvaging a season that looked lost back in January. SVG might not have been able to right the ship under the same scenario.
