Frank does not have the value of his draft position. I don't think that's a stretch to suggest.
Donovan Mitchell likes the kid. Their games would mesh well in theory.
A kid who just happens to be a point guard who projects to play well off another star-type lead guard.
He's undervalued and likely available for peanuts.
If they did get Frank for #20 overall they'd feel like they won that trade (look at this draft).
They've formed what looks like a real friendship and appreciation for each other's games.
Donovan is on record of saying he wants to get guys to Utah. I don't think a KD or Kawhi would consider. So.....
Donovan Mitchell is a young, exciting franchise talent oozing with marketability untapped from playing in a small pond like Utah.
The world isn't as small as they want you to think. If he were playing in LA or NYC he'd be a mega rockstar.
You'd best keep him happy if you want to keep him long term. Ok, following?
They have Neto and Exum under contract next year. Exum is hurt again btw.
They actually project to have some decent cap space BUT they are in Utah.
So no free agent is going to want to go to Utah. Maybe Jabari Parker and Dwayne Dedmon?
But that's about as far as it goes for the list of young, Black professional basketball millionaires who would want to go play in Utah in their primes or approaching them.
So you likely get a guy via trade. Not an overpaid has-been but a young player on a rookie scale deal, one who would maybe see his future in Salt Lake (because culture and comfort matter). One you can add to the core along with Donovan and Rudy.
That would be a win.
Stylistically they are a perfect fit. And he wouldn't cost much.
And again, if you are investing time and resource in a player, you'd better anticipate his potential comfort level in the locker room.
It matters in a major way.....so yes, the French thing does factor. Does "international flavor" matter to the Spurs culture, Toronto, Dallas, etc?
When selecting a player for our very own coach, you think the players' background doesn't matter? After all we've seen and been lead to speculate, would you REEEALLLLYYY go out and force say, another euro big man on Fiz? Language, culture and other cultural gaps do exist, it's still the real world. And yeah, you'd wish it wasn't the case but it would be foolish to ignore recent history (Gasol, Kanter).
Now yes, in realGM speak, I just said Fiz hates White people. And that's cool too.
....and seriously, some would argue Frank is worth much more than a late first in a weak draft.....and some would say he's worth a second rounder with protection. Until he's traded or not, we have no idea. But it makes all the sense in the world.
Now blooodclaat eediat ball boy.....
STFU and GTFO
