Re: 2018-19 College Hoops
I am willing to bet there is a strong correlation between those who like Gus Johnson and those who like college basketball.
They like exciting finishes, underdogs and crazy plays over good solid basketball. They love when the 10 point lead evaporates in 2 minutes because the winning team can't in bound the ball or get it past half court.

Would you call the Wizards or T-Wolves giving up 140 points/game "good, solid basketball" right now? It depends which teams we're talking about.
I got in a discussion with a guy about a boring college game earlier this year and he said, "go and watch the Bucks, what Giannis is doing is incredible! He just outscored these college teams by himself tonight!" And, I mean, the guy wasn't wrong. I watched the highlights and it was like 14 wide open dunks because the Wizards just wanted to jack up shots for stats and only that (and Giannis is also the best player on the planet, of course). I love Giannis but that's not any more aesthetically pleasing to me than a close game where the teams were fighting for their lives to keep it close every possession even if it did end 55-50.
The NBA when all of the good teams are playing for something is incredible basketball. In that case, I'll wait until they're all compiled in the final 8 teams in April or May.
10 point leads can dissolve just as quickly in the NBA because guys on a tanking team simply don't give a **** (and the both teams have insanely talented players to hit 3 quick 3s).
Don't take this as some sort of some comment questioning the effort of NBA players. I totally understand an NBA player's motives when you have insanely good players on the other side of the court in an 82 game season where I'm only playing for a paycheck on a tanking team. Of course I'm going to let Giannis waltz down the lane and dunk it instead of getting posterized or trying to stop him and...he still probably dunks it.

No.
You know, you guys who don’t like college basketball or just want to rip on it constantly in the college basketball thread could just skip it and let those who enjoy it have their fun. *shrug*

Let’s not pretend that this doesn’t happen in the nba as well. The best modern NBA point guard was at the helm of a teaming throwing a 25 point lead in like 10 mins of a playoff game 4th quarter. Yeah it’s far more often in college because of the talent difference but inexplicable stuff happens. The Nba finals had a potentially great game and series basically ruined by JR Smith being a bonehead.

I like college ball more than most on this site. Hell, I go to girls high school games when time permits. I love all basketball. Some is certainly better than others, but I love it all to one degree or another.
I guess my point is that I wouldn't piss on Gus Johnson if he were on fire.

Gus Johnson is also appreciably worse as a basketball announcer now than he was 5-10 years ago. I feel even his biggest fans would acknowledge that.
And yeah there’s definitely some disconnect between people who are basketball fans and then those who are purely NBA/bucks fans. There’s plenty of posters here who have never watched a youth level game or don’t attend HS games period but watch every Bucks game. Some people just like the sport of basketball more than others and find it compelling even if it isn’t the pinnacle of on court play. It’s just a different level/kind of fandom. Like I love the packers and can watch the NFL even if it’s a random game, but you’ll never catch me watching random college football games or going to see HS football, I just don’t like the sport enough to be that into it.

Oh come on, I don't know any of you personally, except a few, and would never accuse anyone of being racist for liking college ball, just like I wouldn't suggest someone isnt racist because they prefer the NBA. But there definitely are those types that dog whistle or are more blatant. My brother for example, was at the front of my mind when I started this whole discussion, and he's literally told me before that institutional racism is not a thing, and that he personally has lifted himself up by his boot straps in his own life.
The circumstances of the tourney and regular session are better in college, absolutely, but if someone brings up the game being more pure or say there's actually defense (haven't seen much of that in this thread) in college, then I start wondering what you're watching. Even in the tourney I personally still prefer the pros because the execution is better, the officiating isnt torturous, and the shot clock makes the game faster.
I think gambling also has an influence here. It's easy to get more invested when even Joe Schmo bets (their bracket). NBA doesn't have that.

But you sort of did say people are racist for preferring college ball. I get where you are coming from though.
For me, I wish the NBA regular season meant a little more. If the Bucks could play the Raps, Celtics, and Sixers twice as much this year it'd be awesome. Maybe go to some kind of unbalanced schedule where you play one division from the western conference twice and the others you only play once.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.
Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

Yeah there's no good solution to scheduling. I don't think they'd go away from the interconference schedule. The home fans get to see each team WC once and I doubt they'd change it. I know baseball and football don't do it this way but it's the been the norm in the NBA.
I've long advocated a shorter schedule but no way the teams give up revenue or the players give up salary.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: 2018-19 College Hoops
The end of the Purdue/Tennessee game was ridiculous. Purdue down 2 with 8.8 seconds left, get blocked and the ball goes out. The refs review, giving Purdue a TO they didn't have to draw up a play. Guy on Tenn fouls Edwards on the shot and he goes to the line, makes 2/3 and forces it to OT where Purdue wins.
They took easily 60 seconds to review it, made up their mind within 15 that it was still Purdue ball, but then spent 45 seconds fixing the clock only to add .2 seconds. In my opinion, that's broken. You shouldn't give teams the chance to draw up a play like that when they don't have TOs...honestly made me so angry.

That missed layup sequence by Michigan essentially defines the half.
