Something worth monitoring over the last few games:

Denver will receive the more favorable of its 2019 2nd round pick protected for selections 56-60 and Washington's 2019 2nd round pick (via Atlanta) and Charlotte will receive the less favorable of these two picks (via Denver to Orlando).

This is somewhat confusing, but the gist is that we get the less favorable of Denver and Washington's 2nd round picks. That would obviously be Denver's, however that "protected 56-60" thing throws a wrench into things.

When Denver traded for Roy Hibbert in an effective salary dump, they sent Milwaukee a top 55-protected 2019 pick they never thought they'd convey (it has since been traded to New Orleans for Mirotic). However, with Denver's success this year, that pick looks likely to be conveyed, leaving only Washington's pick as the only one to satisfy their debt to us.

Thanks to Roy Hibbert, our incoming 2nd round pick projects at 37 instead of 57. As long as Denver maintains a top 5 record in the league, our pick will be roughly 20 slots higher. With 9 games left on their schedule, Denver sits in 4th with a 4-game cushion over 6th.

Good find!

It's spelled out a bit better here:
2019 second round draft pick from Washington or Denver
Denver will receive the more favorable of its 2019 2nd round pick protected for selections 56-60 and Washington's 2019 2nd round pick (via Atlanta) and Charlotte will receive the less favorable of these two picks (via Denver to Orlando); if the Denver pick falls within its protected range, then Charlotte will instead receive the Washington pick [Atlanta-New York-Washington, 6/25/2015; Atlanta-Denver-L.A. Clippers, 7/6/2017; Denver-Orlando, 6/21/2018; Charlotte-Chicago-Orlando, 7/7/2018]

I'm actually kinda excited to have early 2nd rounders since Graham and Bacon are both looking like mid/late 1st round talents right now. I have no idea who's good, but hopefully we find something

Granted, limited exposure, but living in Orlando has given me the opportunity to see a bit more of Aubrey Dawkins than most. Would be a great second round pick up.

Feels like we end up with Coby White/D'Andre Hunter but their/our stock is all over the place. It's kind of hard to tell.

Personally I want to meme it up with Bol Bol even I think he's going to be bust.

We should really petition to let Charlotte sign guys from the both Carolinas directly out of HS, so we can be good.

Coby White looks legit. I'm not sure that's who we should target (and we may not need him if our PGs next year are Kemba/Parker/Graham) but he has looked impressive. Shoots 3s well, seems able to drive the ball into the paint with some consistency, and his 6'5 height gives him a chance to be a nice switchable defender too. It seems like he's the type of guy who should be useful in the NBA.

He’s up to #10 on JG’s (with ESPN) draft board. We have screwed up the end of the season so bad maybe Mitch should just attach this years first round pick with Batum to free up some salary cap space and to get rid of him since our pick is falling down more toward 13th or 14th and I don’t find any prospects past 11 or so that attractive anyway.

I am starting to come around to us drafting this guy in the second round. I will include him in my next update. He doesn't have THAT much athleticism but seems to have a complete game. If we do not get Jalen Mcdaniels in the second then I would take him as my next powerforward if available in the second round for us.

UPDATE - Players who I want us to target for our 2nd rounder are - Jalen Mcdaniels, Kerwin Roach, Isaiah Roby, John Petty,
Matisse Thybulle, Jarrey Foster, V.J. King, Josh Reaves, Bennie Boatwright, Aubrey Dawkins,

I just thought about it. Since we already have BRIDGES and they probably have somewhat similar games there probably wont be a need to draft Roby so I will pass on him, but would like to invite him to camp if he goes undrafted.

pick 1 - Coby White / pick 2 - Jalen Mcdaniels / Pick 3 - John Petty,

or

Pick 1 - Brandon Clarke / Pick 2 - Kerwin Roach / Pick 3 - any of the top 5 sg's on my list

If Clarke is off the board when we pick and we insist on keeping the pick Kevin Porter Jr. from USC possibly has star potential. Kemba probably doesn't want a developmental guy but Porter could be worth the risk.

Kevin Porter
6'6"
217 lbs
USC
4
POS RK
13
OVR RK
Pre-Draft Analysis
Strengths
- Has ample physical tools to play any of the backcourt positions in the NBA. Even defends some power forwards at the college level. Powerful athlete who is a load for most guards to handle in the open court with his combination of strength, shiftiness changing speeds, polished footwork and ball-handling ability.
- Instinctive scorer who can put points up from anywhere on the floor. Natural shot-creator who excels in one-on-one situations. Advanced shot-maker off the bounce.
- Shows some potential passing on the move, as well as glimpses defensively. Can defend on the ball some when he wants to.

Improvement areas
- Still learning how to put it all together and be a productive player on both ends of the floor on a consistent basis. Has bad habits that could use more coaching. At his best in up-tempo settings.
- Decision making and shot-selection are a work in progress. At his best creating for himself, but loves taking contested pull-ups. Needs a lot of freedom to call his own number. Hasn't been around much structured basketball throughout his career. Fairly poor defender at this stage. Bites on fakes. Lackadaisical getting around screens. Rarely gets in a stance off the ball. Hasn't received much coaching in that area.
- High-upside prospect with a fairly low floor. Hasn't been the most reliable player at the high school, AAU or college level thus far. Effort level isn't always there. Will his talent translate to impacting winning?

Thanks for the update. I made a mistake about him. He should be top 5 sf's imo. I rank so many players that a few get overlooked. He's one this year.

He kinda reminds me of Kelly Oubre which could turn out bust tho. But if we were to draft him I would be cool with that. I'd much rather trade the first pick tho and end up with John Petty and Jalen Mcdaniels late

Why would you not want Bol Bol? With his length and ability to alter shots he’s a game changer. Not to mention he can score and shoot. Yeah, well have to be cautious with his injury but look at Embiid. If Kemba leaves he’s absolutely the best player for us because we will suck and be tanking for the number 1 overall the following year. We will probably be out of range for guys like Culver, Garland, and Reddish.

There are a few reasons I am not HIGH on Bol Bol. 1. is his injury. 2. Is how much better is he compared to what we already have center wise here... Since the tourney I have changed my opinion on what I want to draft. Even over the last few days my opinion has changed A LOT. Thats to be expected during tourney play tho... I now want us to take whichever falls to us at that particular pick.

PICK 1
Brandon Clarke
Jarrett Culver
Jalen McDaniels
Nickeil Alexander-Walker
Matisse Thybulle

PICK 2
Jordan Poole
Kerwin Roach
John Petty
Mfiondu Kabengele
V.J. King

PICK 3
Cassius WInston
Bennie Boatwright
Josh Reaves
Jalen Lecque
Dylan Windler

While I am on the side of the fence that I do not want to draft another UK player, I’d at least consider PJ Washington with our second pick. Pretty solid handles and taking the ball to the rim, good shot mechanics, long AF.

I can’t wait to see where we land in the draft (I need something to be excited about). Then we can start really researching based on our position.

My list is who I feel will be available by then. PJ is expected to go in the top 15 actually.

Yeah you're so right about Petty. He has been one of my favs in this draft since the start. He Jalen Mcdaniels and Roach are 3 I really like. Something about Petty's game that reminds me of Harden, without the left and more athleticism

If we go young/tank after Kemba leaves I like Carsen Edwards at the top of the 2nd round as our baby Trae Young
