Mavericks Were Informed Of Kristaps Porzingis' Rape Allegations By Knicks During Trade Call

The Dallas Mavericks were informed by the New York Knicks of pending rape allegations against Kristaps Porzingis on a Jan. 31 trade call with NBA headquarters that finalized a blockbuster trade. The Mavericks took on several unwanted contracts and traded two future first round picks for Porzingis, who will be a restricted free agent this offseason.

Mark Cuban, in an email to the Post, said the team is aware of the accusation, but "we have been instructed by federal authorities not to comment."

Cuban declined further comment when contacted by ESPN.

A seven-month-long investigation in 2018 into the Mavericks organization found widespread sexual harassment and workplace misconduct over a period of more than 20 years.

Cuban agreed to contribute $10 million to women's causes.

So the Mavs knowingly traded for a player with questionable character while the organization had a women assaulting high ranking official for years. Is Mark Cuban going to pay his way out of this again?

While I agree with your sentiment about the presumption of innocence, this is a terrible PR move for the Mavericks. After their rampant sexual harassment scandal, they go out and knowingly trade for a player who is accused of a rape? Further, the law enforcement investigating the claim deem it to be credible? The Mavericks brand is definitely taking a hit here.

Cuban was questioned about the hire of a guy with previous domestic abuse charges, then he doesn't fire him when it happens during his work with the Mavericks. Mavs organisation have sexual harrassment culutre. Now he gets a player that has been accused of rape.

Cuban is taking a big risk here. It's a very strange PR move.

I assume the Knicks informed Mavs of the relevant issues at the beginning of trade talks. And, the issues were repeated during the trade call for the record.

Cuban doesn't own the Mavs because he wants to create a model workplace for woman.

It's not a PR move. It's an attempt to build a better basketball team. The Mavs success is ultimately measured by results on the basketball court. Players aren't hired to be choir boys.
