Re: RJ Barrett
I wouldn't draft this dude with the Kings pick (which is placed at 14 right now). I hate his game that much.

I don’t want to be down on Barrett because no one really deserves to be the 3-5th pick in this draft and if he’s not a guy that can be the third pick, this draft is ****.

Bad look for K imo with that coming out of a timeout when you have Zion Williamson on the roster and he never touched the ball.
They should have played Goldwire in this game who has been a spark for them of late...but he was a ghost.

Re: RJ Barrett
LOL at all the hate for Barrett. Dude is going to be a good player in the NBA. He's a legit 18 years old. If the Wiz get him I'd be over the moon. Never understood the hate for a guy. He can knock down 3's. His handles need work and he can create for others. Is he a perfect player? No. But the dude is 18 years old! When Jimmy Butler was 18 he was in JUCO. When Kawhi Leonard was a freshman he averaged, 12 ppg and shot 21% from the 3-point line. All these haters will only make Barrett better. The missed ft at the end of the game will cause him to get into the gym and work on his game. I hope all the haters keep on hating. This dude will be fine.

The age think matters for prospects who possess humility and the skill of hard work.. RJ has clearly not worked on any part of his game beyond being bigger and stronger than everyone in the past.. history isnt kind to mentally similar prospects once fame and fortune strikes

Re: RJ Barrett
At the end of the day he has the dog in him necessary to develop his deficiencies where as players like Reddish may not.
I think their is a good chance Barrett slips out of the top 3 though despite there not being a bevy of high ceiling options, but maybe more accomplished one's depending on said team needs etc get the nod. If I'm a legit bad team early in a rebuild as opposed to a tanking one I'm taking him,if not,I might pass.

I don’t think anyone isn’t arguing that he’s 18 and possibly has a bright future. The issue is moreso that he’s considered a top 5 pick. Do you spend a top 5 pick on someone that might not be a valuable player till his second contract? And can you explain how he’ll do well in the NBA? Because he hasn’t shown he can translate to the NBA even in the future.

Wiggins was also amazing when he was 18.
This guy is Canada soft like Wiggins.

Wiggins or Harrison Barnes is kind of what I see. Gifted but robotic, not a next level feel for the game. Still worthy of a pretty high pick, but that second contract could be a tough decision for the team that drafts him.

Re: RJ Barrett
Wiggins was a superior prospect due to his J, length and leaping ability.. Barnes is apt skillwise but has a role player mentality and gives effort even with less than stellar results.. RJ reminds me more of a Mario Hezonja or Shabazz Muhammad

Re: RJ Barrett
I don't understand the comparisons being thrown around in this thread. Both Barnes and Wiggins averaged less than 1.5 assists. Barrett is averaging a little more than 4 assists. RJ also has better rebound numbers than those two guys. And scores way more. Does he have a long way to go? Yes. But the notion that he won't be a valuable player until his second contract is laughable. The Wiz draft RJ and we put him in a secondary role. He'll be perfectly fine. If the question is can RJ be a top notch efficient scorer, the jury is still out. But the potential for him to be a solid player on a team that has legitimate scoring is there.

He's a better prospect than Wiggins. Wings that can't get assists don't usually do well in the NBA...

R.J. will be great in the NBA. He just needs to work on shooting. He showed flashes but...

This is his biggest red flag to me: he has worked on all aspects of his game. His pops is an executive with Canada's youth basketball program and Barrett has had the best training, skills development, etc available to him (including training with Steve Nash) and he's still underwhelming.
Don't get me wrong, he's a safe prospect who'll be in the NBA for a long time but his ceiling isn't that high. His biggest problem is he has LeBron's game (get going downhill and barrel into defenders hoping to overpower them) without LeBron's athleticism and strength; it didn't work well in college and sure as hell isn't going to work in the NBA against superior athletes. He has no wiggle or finesse. He's a stiff athlete. Not that explosive. Doesn't change directions well. All left-hand at this point.
He's a guy you want to take in the 8-12 range of a typical draft. This year you probably have to take him 4th unless you really want to go crazy and swing for the fences on a guy like Garland or Bol.

Re: RJ Barrett
I think it's laughable some think his ceiling is low because he needs to improve a lot of aspects of his game... he has one of the highest ceilings in the draft

One problem. Wiggins was not amazing at 18.

Re: RJ Barrett
Never seen a player receive so much hate after a such a historic freshmen season...we'd be legit be talking about one of Duke's best FS seasons ever if it wasn't for Zion have THE greatest season of all time at the collegiate level...
he's easily a 20/5/5 guy in the NBA. only questions are efficiency and how his game accommodates other stars.
