I’d disagree with this. I was born in 1986 and barely remember the 80s if I remember them at all. The majority of media and culture I consumed growing up was 90s media- not 80s. I definitely consider myself a 90s kid.

Sure, some late 80s stuff trickled in there, but it wasn’t my primary frame of cultural reference by a long shot.

All honesty, most people are the results of multiple decades. Saved by the Bell was a show that started in 89 so I guess we could call it 90's but that's not a fully accurate statement. Cheers went from 82-93 and it lead to Frasier which lasted till the 00's. JGI Joes started in 85, beastmaster was 82 I think, TMNT went from 87-96 (I'd have never thought it went on that long), back to the future had 2 of the 3 movies in the 80's, and i can go on.

There's seriously no way that none of the above was part of your early childhood at least in the US. And I can seriously go on with shows that started in the 80's and influenced by the 80's and 90's. I'd mention fashion but frankly I didn't know then and don't know now what is 80's vs 90's fashion. Not something i noticed then or now. I also wasn't into music as a kid so again can't offer much there.

Of the things you mention only TMNT was part of my childhood in any significant way, and it was supplanted pretty early on when the first crop of 90s Nicktoons came around. 90s was prime for me without doubt.

I was just contesting the “you are the decade you were born to” remark. Most of what I personally remember is 90s stuff.

And yeah, it’s not as though once we ticked over from the 80s to the 90s that everything completely changed. But the 80s and 90s do overall have a different “feel” to them, and I most certainly identify with the 90s, the decade I spent ages 3-13 in, rather than the 80s I was born in.

First is not some masterpiece, so who cares. This is not like Brian Johnson ruining the whole legendary saga with his artistic fart, yeah I said it, shots fired.

Interestingly this brings up the question of what "kid" means. By 13 one's a teen. I tend to think more of it ends with elementary school.

Sure. But that still places virtually all of my cogniscient childhood and only the first year of my teens in the 90s.

True, but again the "80's" were still going on into the 90's. Unless you were loaded, a movie from 1985 wasn't getting TNT/TBS type play till the 90's. Again most of the TV shows from the late 80's kept going into and through the 90's. I'm still kinda shocked you didn't have GI Joes though. I'm not THAT much older and have much younger siblings...definitely they were a thing for even kids born into the early 90's. Beastmasters maybe was a bit too old. Though I'm sure I was watching reruns into the 90's of that too. Then again I recall watching Cosby in college another 80's show.

And lets not even get into Arnold where unless you were born after 95, you had an obligation to see every movie he did in the 80's and 90's! :)

Yeah I was born in 85 and only remember things like the first Nintendo in the very late 80s.

NES came out in 83.

I was born in 85 and probably got in 89 which would be all I remember from the 80s is what I’m saying

What I"m getting at is that you were playing likely 80's game on an 80's system. WHEN you played isn't as important as you're being influenced by the culture from the 80's.

That make sense?

ET might be a fond childhood movie even if you weren't alive when it came out but you saw on VHS fews after and it was awesome. I think today the world moves a lot faster, more instant gratification. Back then things lingered.

Whether you like it or not, this is going to probably be a huge box office movie. Will definitely watch it, even if it leaves a poor taste in my mouth. Should've been Kobe..

According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic LeBron will have a full-length basketball court built on the movie's set to train while filming.

I actually wonder if being a 2nd star in the movie will be enticing to any possible FA's.

for an athlete, Lebron can act so you never know maybr it's going to be decent. Looney tunes are funny and adorable.

I think it's going to flop. There's a bit of LeBron fatigue among basketball fans, and Looney Tunes don't carry the same weight in the 2010's/2020's that they did in 96/97 when Space Jam came out. Those characters mean nothing to the target audience.

I think there will also be a bit of a groan about a remake/fake sequel, considering there's a bit of fatigue in that regard too. Just look at Ghostbusters. They are basically ignoring that horrendous version released a couple years ago for a third part that will do it justice.

Not to mention, part of the staying power of Space Jam had nothing to do with the movie itself, but with the amazing soundtrack. Music, similarly doesn't have the same impact the way it once did due to its ubiquity.

Throw in the fact that Jordan is not in it, and it's not even being directed or produced by the same people. It definitely will not hold up to the original b/c it'll be too different from what made the other one a fun watch.

Not to mention part of Space Jam's fun was that Jordan was poking fun at himself for his retirement and choice to pursue baseball. There was a bit of tongue-in-cheek underlying meta joke there that carried the entire plot.

It just won't be the same and not worth the money or time, even if you like LeBron James.

But the movie wouldve ended with all the humans and looney toons hating the main protagonist.

They need to recast the lead role to be Steph Curry if they want it to make significant money. I don’t know how this isn’t clear to the Hollywood types - or maybe Steph already turned them down.

LeBron has appeal, but he just doesn’t fit very well in a kid’s movie w/ Bugs Bunny. He’d be great in action or drama movies designed to appeal to a more mature audience, not kid’s movies.

I think Curry would be perfect for a kid’s movie about basketball like this.

It won’t be the same to me and people who were KIDS when the original came out OBVIOUSLY....but my nephews will be excited as hell to see it even if they aren’t that into looney tunes. It will be hyped every where and all their little friends at school will talk about it and it will have cameo’s with other nba stars and it will just be fun for them.

As I get older I find myself always thinking what we had when we were kids was the best and can’t be matched and maybe in some cases that’s true but the reality is- we glorify those moments bc we were just young and at that time it meant the world to us.

How many video games and movies I go back and watch and just think man this sucks.
Imma gonna let this young generation enjoy it and I hope it is as important to them as the original was To us regardless if that’s factual or not.
