i'm starting to come around to this line of thinking too. god damn do i wish he would have played more games to evaluate though. the good thing is he's pretty much guaranteed to make it to 5 now, so we can get him if we want.

if i had to bet on which guy is most likely to surprise people and make people regret passing on him, it would be garland

Draft order and workouts can still play a role. I remember this time last year some thought Mikal Bridges was a lock for top 6 but he not only fell below that but even got traded. We will see how things shake out this year

Bulls would be foolish to pass on him imo

I dont think so. Mikal was the favourite to the 9 pick. The first 8 names was almost locked: Ayton, Doncic, JJJ, Bagley, Trae, MPJr, Bamba and WCJr.

You serious? When Mikal was still playing in the tournament they had him up as high as 6. Trae was mocked to drop to 8 or 9 and Knicks board didn't even want him lol

He's got a bit of that Lillard thing going on with his game.

lillard is a good comp for garland. it's fine to draft him and play him in a sub role for the first few years. he'll be a good player for a long time.

If you had a choice; take the guaranteed #2 pick or roll with the current lottery odds what do you pick? I think I'd play it safe and take #2. Ja or Culver at #2 is still pretty good.

I'd still take the odds. We're talking about Zion here. If this was a weak class at the top like say the 2017 draft then I wouldn't but I'm risking it for Zion. I'm also fairly confident that Culver will be there at 4, possibly at 5, and I'd be fine with that as a consolation.

Yes. You can look in this mock draft tracker that lists various 2018 mocks and its hard to find one that had put Mikal ahead of Trae

garland was the greatest recruit to ever sign to vanderbilt. dude is gonna be a stud elite shooter off the bounce. his game is tailor made for the way elite point guards play in this league more then ja. we don’t need a guard that dominates the ball and needs to be a primary playmaker. we need more elite shooters and shot creators.

look at the league. bucks got giannis, middleton, bledsoe, brogdan. raptors got lowry, khawi, siakim. 76ers got simmons, butler, harris. gs goes without saying. league ain’t about having ya pg be your main decision maker anymore. more about being an elite scorer off the pick and roll and from deep.

curious about his official height. seen him listed from 6’2 to 6’4.

Those are all post lottery. I'm talking about this time last year during march madness and deep into the tournament when his stock reached its peak. He was basically looked at as a real possibility to go top 6 and some thought he wouldnt go past the Bulls. I know many here thought he wasnt making it to the Knicks.

If he plays backup pg and also sees some time with the starters you could have him at 25-28 mpg. That ain't no bench player that's a key piece of the rotation. If we are putting together a win now team and KD comes too then no rookie besides Zion is guaranteed starter or even being on the team after the off-season.

I see what you saying but I would still aim higher than that with a lottery pick. Draft someone you know has a bigger chance to be a starter/star. If you know Garland is going to be coming off the bench off rip when there is other players available with more potential than him then you know picking Garland is a major reach.

Nobody after Zion got more potential than him so there's no reach. He's been sitting 2 on my board for weeks maybe months. Nothing changed

#2?? i aint that high on him

first rj is mudiay and now garland is mudiay. neither of those make sense. there's a long history of terrible knicks, pick someone else from the vast pool of awfulness that more appropriately compares. thank you.

you can make your point without being hyperbolic. comparing him to mudiay just makes you look dumb.

and he doesn’t have bad court vision. it’s not elite but it’s far from bad.

being so invested in a player that is being mocked from the 6-10 range makes you look dumb because he's not going to be a knick.

rj is bigger than mudiay so he’s got that going for him. but there r a lot of similarities
