Frank is a great defender and can pass. His drop off came when Fizdale seemed to want him to show scoring moves.

It’s either Fizdale or Illmatic. One of them did.

he was always gonna have to work on scoring and developing an outside shot. they do that to every guard. there isn't a lot of call for guards with no ability to score from anywhere on the floor. you can blame him for keeping him on a short leash but not for encouraging him to expand his game.

I don't disagree but I do think you can mess up a young player by doing things out of order or too soon.

Its easy to forget Mitch took an entire year off, and was banged up a lot of games. He is just getting his feet wet and showing immense improvement. I wouldnt put any kind of ceiling on him.

Why should we make him less predictable? He predictably is an unstoppable force down low off of loose balls, alley oops and his own misses. That's a good predictable, I think.

uh because it will let him get more space for lob plays, and space the floor better to open up things for other guys?

Re-posting from the GB thread:

He’s starting now and continuing to show improvement. Played 30+ min in his last 3 games and has only committed 3 fouls per game. Since 2/1 (26 games) his FT% is up to a respectable 67.5% (44.7% in 35 games prior).

The absurd blocks continue, and he’s starting to show a little more variation in his scoring around the rim. Hits a lot of weird underhand flip shots from different angles due to his inspector gadget arms. Even though he’s a twig, also uses that length to just finish over guys stronger than him when he gets decent positioning.

I agree he doesn’t need 1 on 1 moves yet. I don’t see an issue with him taking X number of 3s and say elbow jumpers per day in the off season, though. The floor spacing would be wild if he eventually becomes a respectable spot up shooter. Depending on how well he can read the defense, the threat of the lob would become even more lethal.

I wouldn’t either. No reason to risk injury for no reason.

It’s almost like someone up above said ‘Another coach who can’t get the Knicks to play D?! Another one?? I’m tired of this, just send them a player who is a one-man team defense.’

God IS a Knicks fan.

I would not be surprised if Mitch comes back next season with a jumper, a go-to post move and driving ability. This kid has that 'it' factor. He's untouchable to me. Even in an AD trade. I want Mitch to be our starting C the next decade.

Mitch is looking more comfortable with some creative finishes around the hoop - finger rolls, scoop shots etc.

It's kind of like summer league Mitch doing his thing, but against NBA competition.

It shows how he can improve and is improving.

Love is love. Real ones give it up and don't feel threatened by the presence of those next up in the line of greatness. No Morris Twins shenanigans here. And this particular Lopez twin is no punk. Yet he is comfortable enough in his own skin to give it up to the young man.
