4 archetypes of a top draft pick imo.
Which 1 do you want? Or all of the above.
1. Franchise player (ben simmons)
2. #1 option (zach lavine)
3.3 &D (klay thompson)
4. Defensive specialist-Mitch robinson

What is the knicks biggest need?
Usually top talent is the deciding factor.
For perspective, the other team i follow, the bulls needed a number 1 option last draft.
So that had to be a prerequisite when determining value.

In hindsight defensive draft picks like deng, hinrich were big mistakes and stray draft narrative to this day.
Admitedly/coincidentally that type of player seems to have value for the knicks.

I’d hate to see the knicks draft another point guard. I’d just take my chances with rj whom already has sort of a blue print to see the floor if developed properly.

He needs to work on his creativity outside but he’s already a solid straight line driver, comfortable in a pick and roll and has made progress finding teammates.

Knicks magic number to lock in the 5th pick in the 2019 NBA draft currently stands at 2.

Any combination of 2 Knicks losses and/or Suns wins certifies the worst record in the league.

zion
culver
barrett
ja
garland

that should be the knicks draft board.

but based off the looks and name test, zion and culver look and have names like stars. ja has the name of a star but looks like a scrub, barrett doesn't have the name or look, and garland just has the name.

I think Knicks will take Ja Morant almost for sure at pick3 and very likely at pick2. He is very valued around the league. The Knicks can either trade the pick for some wing (Culver/Hunter/Cam) plus a future pick, put him in a package for a star or start him with Dennis as sixth man.

But I dont see Knicks picking Garland or White at pick5. I think there are many players with the same value at this position. So its better to pick for fit. And would be a better fit a wing or a PF.

I'd still take the odds. We're talking about Zion here. If this was a weak class at the top like say the 2017 draft then I wouldn't but I'm risking it for Zion. I'm also fairly confident that Culver will be there at 4, possibly at 5, and I'd be fine with that as a consolation.

14% chance at Zion, 48% chance at 5th pick (huge question marks after top 4). I'd take Morant and run.

I was big on trading any college player the Knicks drafted for AD if the Knicks can sign KD and Kyrie.

I rarely watch college basketball, so I only know a little bit of what Zion Williams can do on the court. And from what I've seen, Zion Williams is the only college player the Knicks should not trade for AD. I feel Zion and Mitch together could be more productive than AD in the future as they develop. However, all other college player must get traded for AD, even if Mitch is part of the trade package. Assuming the Knicks are able to sign KD and Kyrie of course. 8-)

I cant get a sense of how weak or strong this draft is. No one really wants RJ or Cam anymore, Ja has major weaknesses on D(compared to mudiay :( ), Culver's weird shot. I just hope we get somebody at least as good as De'aaron Fox or a poor mans Tatum.

I think that Garland and Culver could both move up into the pick # 2-4 discussion. I'm not sold on Culvers shooting but I love everything else. I'm very high on Garland. I like White's potential to become a big time scorer. He's too boom or bust though. He has the potential of James Harden/Gilbert Arenas type but could easily end up as Lou Williams. Morant and Barrett will both be in the top 5. Cam and Hunter are falling IMO.

Besides that, I haven't watched any of the "bigs" closely now that we have Mitch and Knox. Knox has to develop into a 4.

I think this is likely THE accurate current view of the Knicks FO intentions. If you are NY and you don't get Zion the 2 pick is great option. Not necessarily to select someone but to leverage the pick to someone in the 3-6 range who have a definite #2 player that they know won't last to pick 4-6. For that right the Knicks ransom could be either a young promising player or, more likely, a high pick.

Thinking is in a draft with no clear #2 your 2nd highest graded player may be available in the 4-6 range.

If KD/Kyrie are coming and we get the #2 pick and CHI/PHX has the #4 pick I would easily make that trade. A future draft pick + #4 for the #2 pick. Get Culver and a future asset.
