I think this is likely THE accurate current view of the Knicks FO intentions. If you are NY and you don't get Zion the 2 pick is great option. Not necessarily to select someone but to leverage the pick to someone in the 3-6 range who have a definite #2 player that they know won't last to pick 4-6. For that right the Knicks ransom could be either a young promising player or, more likely, a high pick.

Thinking is in a draft with no clear #2 your 2nd highest graded player may be available in the 4-6 range.

Pretty sure Ja is the clear #2.

--Mags

If KD/Kyrie are coming and we get the #2 pick and CHI/PHX has the #4 pick I would easily make that trade. A future draft pick + #4 for the #2 pick. Get Culver and a future asset.

Oh hell no. I demand more. #4, future 1st and a young guy. I then turn around flip the young guy plus our young guys for AD.

i think a similar trade with the DAL/ATL is the framework.

Move up two spots and we get a future top 5 protected 1st rounder that is unprotected in future years.

Romeo Langford to declare for NBA Draft

MINNEAPOLIS — Romeo Langford, the 6-foot-6 freshman shooting guard from Indiana, will declare for the NBA Draft, he told ESPN.com.
Langford averaged 16.5 points and 5.4 rebounds during an injury-riddled season at Indiana, which failed to make the the NCAA Tournament.
He is the projected No. 10 pick in the Draft, per ESPN.com.
Langford told ESPN he tore a ligament in his thumb last November before the Duke game and was never right afterward.
“I think it’s fair to say that we never got a chance to see me at my best at the college level, especially since I’ve been playing with basically a cast on my thumb the whole season,” Langford said. “Obviously that throws off your shot. Even though I didn’t shoot as well as I’m capable of, I feel like I shot the ball pretty well in the second half of the season.”
He added: “I tried to keep going with the injury instead of shutting it down, just because I wanted to experience college basketball and I wanted to be there for my teammates and help them be all that they can be. I think that shows NBA teams how tough I am.
“I’m looking forward to showing NBA teams all the things that they didn’t see out of me during the college basketball season.”

#1 obviously is ideal but would love to get the #2.

The assets we could get back for that would be very nice...

I know THERE IS NO WAY!

But is this remotely concieveable? Phoenix wins the lottery and NY gets the #2 pick.

NY & Phoenix swap picks. Now the Knicks offer would have to choke a horse but looking at Phoenix their need is a PG. They've already drafted a 4 & 5 in the last two drafts. Sure maybe they take Zion and trade Josh Jackson for a PG. But that deal doesn't improve them. The'd be roster managing around Zion rather than addressing team needs.

Put another way if Phoenix "loses" the lottery and ends up with the 2nd pick. They'll be estatic because their need aligns wirh the board and they can stay put and come out of the draft with the best player for them. NY could offer the same plus a couple of 1st rd unprotected picks

But a NY offer of #2, Dallas' unprotected 1 and maybe another 1 might give them pause.

If KD/Kyrie were coming I would offer #2, DAL unprotected #1, and our 2020 unprotected 1st. Whether or not the Suns do that is another story but I still make that call.

We could probably get a mid to late 1st round and recoup a pick for DSJ if we wanted to.

For me if I ran the NY FO the answer to the question of how much to offer comes down to one player. How do I feel about Mitchell Robinson?

If I'm 100% sold that he's going to be a high chracter anchor for my defense for the next 10years then I'd be willing to go to the wall for Zion (if I was sold on him as well). Mitch & Zion would give me a complimenting front court for a decade. There is no pick that have I that would result in landing a player of similar talent so those picks for me wouldn't matter as much.

If I'm not sold on Robinson then it'd be hard for me to package off some potentially high picks when I've still got roster holes at the 2, 4, and 5 positions (assuming KD & KI are heading to Gotham).

As such if the cost of Mitch & Zion is #2 and 2 unprotected 1st's I'd do the deal and consider it cheap for the talent and decade of stability it would buy me.

If he plays backup pg and also sees some time with the starters you could have him at 25-28 mpg. That ain't no bench player that's a key piece of the rotation. If we are putting together a win now team and KD comes too then no rookie besides Zion is guaranteed starter or even being on the team after the off-season.

I see what you saying but I would still aim higher than that with a lottery pick. Draft someone you know has a bigger chance to be a starter/star. If you know Garland is going to be coming off the bench off rip when there is other players available with more potential than him then you know picking Garland is a major reach.

Garland is a good prospect but people slurping him now just cuz they haven't seen much of him and all the other prospects have been dissected. I don't view Garland as some huge upside guy. He will contribute immediately cuz he can shoot. But people making out like he is a legit 2nd pick option and that is an overstatement.

If I was his agent I would send out his medicals but he ain't working out. Dude has more to lose than to gain by being seen. The allure of lack of visibility is working in his favor.

If we win the lottery, awesome. But if we don't and stay in the top 4, I'm good too. I'd probably prefer Culver over anyone not named Zion - if Kyrie is coming.

Kyrie/Frank/DSJ
Culver/Dotson
Knox
KD
Mitch/Kornet

Sign 2 vets like Rudy Gay/Ariza and Taj Gibson/Ed Davis for the minimum and we're good to go.

Yeah, it'll free up an additional $5 Million or so. Same with Frank. We can't keep all these guards going into next year. Especially if we're forced to Draft one like Ja or Culver.
