zion is gonna be a star, he looks like one and has the name of one, mitchell robinson is gonna be a star, he looks like one and has the name of one.
think of every star, you need one of "looking like a star/having the name of a star" to be successful, kids with whack names lack confidence growing up.

cj mccollum is a very good player but doesn't look like a star and has a whack name, therefore nobody cares about him.
there's flaws to my system but it's pretty accurate.
kevin knox doesn't look like a star, but he has the name of one so there's hope for him.

I see what you saying but I would still aim higher than that with a lottery pick. Draft someone you know has a bigger chance to be a starter/star. If you know Garland is going to be coming off the bench off rip when there is other players available with more potential than him then you know picking Garland is a major reach.
Garland is a good prospect but people slurping him now just cuz they haven't seen much of him and all the other prospects have been dissected. I don't view Garland as some huge upside guy. He will contribute immediately cuz he can shoot. But people making out like he is a legit 2nd pick option and that is an overstatement.
What does a legit 2nd pick option look like? Victor Oladipo? MKG? Derrick Williams? Marvin Williams? Evan Turner? Hasheem Thabeet? Jabari Parker? D'Angelo Russell? Brandon Ingram? Lonzo Ball?
Just curious, what a legit 2nd overall pick looks like

This makes no sense. He has all the reason to work out and increase his stock since teams are placing such great emphasis on workouts nowadays. Only reason he shouldnt workout is if he's not ready to but if his rehab is done and he's been training and preparng like reports say he has been then why would he not proceed? Why not bust dudes ass in workouts and earn himself a bigger rookie paycheck?

if he’s healthy he has way more to gain because of the low game exposure.
his skillset plays up in workout setting.
not giving workouts when it’s in his best interest is a huge red flag, just ask mitch. your strategy is horrendous advice.

Im feeling pretty sure that DSJ is gone this summer no matter what
perhaps on draft night, depending on where were picking
Yeah, it'll free up an additional $5 Million or so. Same with Frank. We can't keep all these guards going into next year. Especially if we're forced to Draft one like Ja or Culver.
--Mags
if we end up with Ja or Kyrie then I see no reason to have DSJ here
except for possibly to fill out a AD trade
Frank I feel differently about but he's gone in a AD trade too

Especially if his camp says he is 100% healthy, teams are gonna wanna see it. You got no reason not to workout unless you are hiding something. Teams will be eager to watch him workout especially if he's healthy enough to and if he refuses that will be a major red flag and his stock can only fall from there.

yeah. after the injury he has to work out, or nobody will trust that he's healthy and he'll drop. he could cost himself a bunch of money.

I can do that too. Rattle off a bunch of names of 1st overall picks who busted or ended up medicre. Point is, relative to the #2 pick slot Garland isn't ideal or a legit option. No other evaluator or mock has him in the conversation that high. And I am not even sure he is going to go through the workout process. So to me he is a reach that high. Especially considering we have incumbent PG options and another legit draft option in Ja.

Cuz his stock has never been higher than it already is. He has seen an increase in his stock by not even playing. Early in the college season this draft was considered a weak PG crop and Garland was seen as a late lottery pick in a good draft and a 7-10 slot pick in this draft only due to being the sole PG prospect. This was before Ja proved his mettle on the court.
Fast forward to now, and Garland is in discussion as a 4-5 pick slot option despite barely playing. Despite concerns over his floor general ability. Despite passing/vision questions.
Combined with his post-sugery rehab, one could reasonably argue he has more to lose and less to gain by doing a group workout. If he works out at all, it would probably be the conservative route with a solo workout.

Mitch had character concerns and uncertainty surrounding his reasons for unexpectedly dropping out of college. He also had questions about his introverted personality.
Garland has no such yellow flags. His situation is not linear with Mitch's at all.
