No way Trae doesn’t play. He wants 82/82!

Rookie of the year!

Load management is aka: "we don't care about this game so we're throwing it" in this case, but in most cases it's been rest.

We clearly have no confidence in the Mavs winning one game with the shenanigans they're pulling, so I guess it's time to pull out the full stops on tanking this game to clinch #5. Even still, I'd give Trae the 82 games started, and have him start and play 5 minutes in this game.

I wanted Trae to get 82, but it's not worth the risk if the Bucks rest everyone again. Better to lose this one and be free to go all out against Indiana in the final home game. Hopefully end on a win (and #30).

Oh, we are ON to you, Mark Cuban!

Now, look here. Nobody ordered your GM to mess around with these Atlanta Hawks. Then again, maybe somebody DID… Mark!

Matter of fact, you had your squad up to shenanigans this time last year. “Oh, we suck so bad, we can’t seem to stop losing!” Moonwalked your way right into a pre-Lottery coin flip with us. Then, your team got lucky, and won. YOU THOUGHT.

You just had to have your Golden Child, didn’t ya? Had to up the odds you’d get first dibs at him. Then, Lottery Day rolls around, and… Congratulations! You played yourself.

You should have just sat there and took your pick. But no, you had to get cute. Next thing we know, you had Donnie Nelson blowing up GMs’ cellies, with orders to get his hands on your precocious top prospect, no matter the cost.

Y’all didn’t have to fool around with our boy, Travis Schlenk. You could have tried, maybe, calling his bluff. At least pretend you had better deals lined up with Vlade the HOF, or that McDone kid that was running the Suns back then. But, nah, y’all thought this was “T.S. Idiot” you were gonna swindle. This here is Colonel Schlenk, buddy. He’s no Sergeant Schultz. This guy right here hears everything, sees everything, knows everything.

You still got your Golden Child. And, wow, look at him, he’s the clear-cut, unanimous, Rookie of The First Half of The Year! Now, if the lil’ homie was really all that and a bag of Fritos, you’d have allowed him and Rick Carlisle to at least try to lead your team back into the NBA Playoffs. Remember, back in mid-December, y’all were 15-11 and high-fiving and glad-handing each other over this… steal, you all called it?... of a Draft Night deal?

But the kid couldn’t keep it up. Oh, not the award-winning boxscore-stuffing, it’s the winning of actual games we’re talking about here. 14-11 with G.C. in your lineups at the start, 13-33 since. Maybe he gets his coveted trophy, after all. But I hope the kid doesn’t have a taste for coffee, yet. Because that’s for closers.

You had your people wipe out the entire starting lineup around him, including the guy you tanked for in 2017, all in hopes he’d have a seven-foot Unicorn on rehabbed knees to play with next year. Then, you satisficed with selling tickets and jerseys. “Come one, come all, see the amazing Golden Child! *Winning accessories not included.”

And now look at y’all, acting all thirsty. A 9 percent shot at Zion isn’t good enough for you. No, you MUST get you that extra 1.5 percent. Absolutely gotta have those extra five percentage points to get your 2019 pick back from Travis, eh? It’s not a good look in these streets, Marky Mark.

Putting Timmy Jr. on mothballs wasn’t enough, since you beat Golden State without him. Sitting G.C. himself wasn’t enough: back-to-back wins over OKC and Philly made your team 4-3 on the season without him. Then you hide Jalen Brunson and Dwight Powell, too, all so you could treat your home fans to a drubbing at the hands of Delon Wright’s Grizzlies. You’ll pull this tired act again, this evening in Memphis, ensuring you’d finish the season ahead of them.

Don’t even try to act like you’re some passive observer now. For decades, you brag to anyone who’ll listen about how you have an eagle eye aimed at every little thing that goes on in your franchise’s name, I guess “Pants DJ” notwithstanding. Your fingerprints are all over this little ploy.

Built up all this media capital, to suggest the ROY award was all sewed up before Kwanzaa. And now, in a twist of fate, you’re depending on Trae Young to improve the odds you can save your precious 2019 draft pick.

Y’all need Atlanta’s rookie, the guy you picked only to trade away, to close out his campaign by showcasing, in his final two contests, the things that people use to argue that he has closed the gap on, maybe even surpassed, your Golden Child. Playing every game, making his teammates better, coming through in the clutch.

Y’all need all that, as Atlanta visits the Milwaukee Bucks (7 PM Eastern, Fox Sports Southeast and 92.9 FM in ATL, Fox Sports Wisconsin) before returning home Wednesday to host the playoff-positioning Pacers. Meanwhile, your team, with or without your G.C., gets to flop against the likes of Memphis (yet again, today) and whatever’s left of Phoenix.

You need Milwaukee (59-21) to play like a team that has already sewed up first-round homecourt throughout, a team that faces a rested Hawks (29-51) squad after losing yesterday evening against Brooklyn. You need Giannis, ironically the “Full Body of Work” MVP candidate, to not care about a closing argument. You need Coach Bud not to trifle over securing a 60th win, in front of the Fiserv Forum crowd, versus his former employer, a Hawks team that already beat them last weekend.

Well, the joke’s on you, pal. Because, Trae doesn’t need to play 82 games to prove he’s been more durable in his rookie campaign that your perpetually bubble-wrapped G.C. Thigh contusion, my foot. Young’s probably going to get the load-management treatment, currently listed as questionable along with his lob partner John Collins (only NBA second-year player since at least 1952 averaging 19+ PPG and 9.5+ RPG in under 30 MPG).

Even if the Hawks’ dynamic duo do appear, Kevin Huerter (back pain) and Kent Bazemore (adductor strain) will remain on the pine. Trae, JC, and even Tankbuster Taurean Prince have proven they can go minus-30 against middling teams like Orlando without their wing mates’ help. Even if that’s not enough, Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce knows how to pull the plug, if need be. Read Isaac Humphries’ 4th-quarter boxscore line and weep.

Even if the Hawks DO let you off the hook, and you wind up tanking this summer’s pick back into play, what have you built around your young core? Are your two newest Golden Children leading the way to 45 wins in the West? Not likely. If your Unicorn proves too slow to return to form in 2019-20, guess what you’ll be up to this time next year? That’s right, benching then dumping teammates like Timmy, hustling backwards, tanking for a fourth-straight season, doing whatever you can to kick the can down the road once more.

You just sit there, Cuban. Sit right there and watch this Hawks moral vicotry, in your little Shark Tank, and you think long and hard about what you’ve done. Go ahead. See what happens when you try Travis again.

Let’s [fingerquotes] Go [/fingerquotes] Hawks!

In the words of kg..

Gittem lw3!

Great thread. Lotta injured dudes but Trae will play 82/82! Enjoy the last rodeo (rode) show folks!

Dangit mine too..and Collins is out. I still think I might win gold but I really wanted Trae playing 82 games. I would have thought he might want that as well.

I guess the positive in this is that he doesn’t care about statistics. That’s a great thing. 81/82 ain’t bad at all!

My mathematical algorithmic logic may have been slightly flawed, but I called this 5th/6th Cuban thing precisely, all the way back in January. See “Taking the 5th” thread

The specific computations had my mind all tied up like a pretzel, I had a pretzel in my head! But it actually unfolded EGGZACKLY how I predicted 3 months ago, positionally and methodically speaking. “Come abooooard, we’re expecting yoooooooouuu.”
