Random Poll: Would you take 1 guaranteed championship for knowing you will never win another one?
Random thing I was thinking about last night. Would you take 1 guaranteed championship for the Suns in the next 5 years with the trade off being after they won you would know they would never win another one in your lifetime? I put in the next 5 years because you would still want it to be a little bit of a surprise in what year they actually won.
I'm really torn on this. It would be super fun to actually win a championship and it's possible they will never win one in my lifetime so that would tempt me to vote yes. But once that was done it would kind of ruin being a fan because that hope of the chip would be gone forever. I think age would come into play with your answer; the younger you are the more likely to say no.
I'm leaning yes because I'm enough of a general basketball fan to still enjoy the sport after that championship but I might change my mind.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Yes, because it's very hard to win one and we may never win one. Though if it came down to that vs never being in the playoffs and competing and having fun competitive seasons, no, because for me it's ultimately about enjoying seasons and being vested down the stretch and enjoying playoff battles, win or lose.

Yeah that would suck but in my random hypothetical you could still be good and even make a finals you would just never win another one.
I was thinking about this with my other favorite teams too. I wouldn't take this trade off with the Packers, partly because I've seen them win 2 rings in my lifetime so getting that 3rd wouldn't be worth the trade off of hoping for more than 3. I think I would take it with the Brewers, they are a small market team so will always be at a disadvantage so I'd take the one sure one. Plus they have like 6 winning season in my 30 years of being a fan.

Hehe, that question is funny.
Since you are asking on the Suns board, I think you will get a quite straight-forward answer: yes.
I think it would be funny to ask this question on Cavs board.

No. Why would I stay a fan afterwards? And this is such deep off-season topic, like late July deep

Ha yeah it was a deep in some edibles chilling on my couch discussion in my head last night that I went back and forth on what i would choose.

No is probably the 'right' answer for the reason you gave but if I'm being honest with myself I might take the short term joy of a championship.

We've been trying for 50 years and only came close a number of times. If you can guarantee me one, I'll **** take it

You've been a fan for this long and other fans for longer, yet we've never won one in our 50yr history
Why wouldn't you stay a fan afterwards ?

Yes. I've been waiting 43 years for them to win one, and I don't see them winning one any time soon with Sarver's involvement.
I would happily make that deal with this team.

Hell no. Even if you said I was guaranteed championship for free I would still decline. It wouldn't be real and wouldn't feel the same. Im with this team through thick and thin and that will make it that much more special when we we finally do win.

Because there would be nothing else to wait for and be excited about.

Yes because it is extremely difficult to even one championship. There is a very good chance that the Suns do not win a championship during the lifetime of any Suns fan on this forum.
So naturally I’ll take that one championship and enjoy it for years and years.

Let me put it this way... I wouldn't switch rosters with the Warriors...
THATS NOT OUR TEAM! you want a championship for free? Go watch and root for another team.
Its really that easy....

I'd rather be in contention every year and maybe coming way with winning one than for sure win one and be relegated to worthlessness for the rest of my existence.
The Suns were, for the longest time, the 3rd or 4th most winningest franchise in NBA history by winning percentage. A proud, consistently solid, consistently entertaining franchise. Ever since being infected by the "losing on purpose" cancer, we've been a laughing stock, a clown show, a trainwreck with no real discernible moments of relevance----aside from the surprise year in 2014 that our wonderboy general manager in his infinite tanking NBA2k fetish wisdom promptly blew up for no reason----in practically a decade.
The 2004-2010 years, save for 2009, were some of the most entertaining and awesome sports memories I have because we had legitimate shots every year and would have won multiple had it not been for reasons described a billion times already.
I'd take the possibility a million times out of a million over a guarantee of triumph followed by a penance of futility.
