Cam still over him for me but Hunter without question is my guy. I've been high on uVA for a reason and Hunter as well as Jerome showed well but Diakate is going to be on my 2020 radar

That he went 5-22 when faced with an NBA caliber defender is maybe not entirely surprising, but I think it sinks him on my draft board. Yeah NBA spacing will be better and the plays and action will yield more space, but I don't think he's the type of guy we'd be running plays for to begin with so if you can't do a little bit of wing creation on your own against NBA defenders that's troubling.
Definitely have to co-sign this. And, no Culver didn't struggle against an NBA 3&D guy, he struggled against what is perhaps the best college-level team defense in the NCAA in a lotta years. And to combat it, his coach had him going 1-on-5.
Did y'all also opine for us to draft Divincencio #3 last year? Relax, people.

Just the opposite for me. I’ve “wanted” to like Culver for months, but there’s just been something missing with him. I’ve “wanted” to not like Hunter for months, seemed underwhelming but still couldn’t be ignored. When that comes to a head in a championship game, it’s the culmination of months of observation. It sealed it for me, it’s what I needed to see. And not in a snap judgement kind of way. The Huert and The Hunter, I like it...
5. Atlanta Hawks: De'Andre Hunter (Virginia, SF/PF, Sophomore)
De'Andre Hunter made his case as the draft's top wing defender by helping hold Jarrett Culver to 5-of-22 shooting in the national title game. Texas Tech's top scorer struggled to create any separation against the 6'7", 225-pound hybrid forward.
Hunter came alive offensively in the second half and overtime with four three-pointers and a few tough buckets around the basket. It turned into his best offensive performance since arriving at Virginia, and he finished with a career-high 27 points.
Not much about Hunter's game or creativity is flashy. But the Atlanta Hawks could value his high floor and fit as a three-and-D combo forward. He could play the 4 with John Collins at the 5, or Atlanta could use Hunter as a perimeter stopper at the 3.

After looking at wings and forwards with their own pick at No. 5, the Atlanta Hawks could use the Dallas Mavericks' selection on a big.
Jaxson Hayes would add rim protection behind Trae Young and John Collins, as well as another easy-basket target for Young to find off pick-and-rolls and penetration.
Still 18 years old, Hayes shot 72.8 percent from the field while averaging 3.8 blocks per 40 minutes. Though limited offensively, he should continue to excel by playing to his strengths as a rim-runner, finisher and defensive presence.
5. Atlanta Hawks | DeAndre Hunter: Combo Forward- Virginia
The quiet DeAndre Hunter was not always aggressive in the tournament, but he often made the play that was needed from him. When Hunter turns on the aggression, however, his combination of strength and size make him hard to stop. His defense is top quality, particularly on the ball, where he suffocates defenders of many sizes. It isn’t hard to project him as a 4-position defender at the next level. Pair that with his ability to knock down the three and attack closeouts and his floor is safe enough to pick here while you let the creation ability develop.
8. Atlanta Hawks (Via Dallas Mavericks) | Jaxson Hayes: Big- Texas
The Hawks with their second top 10 pick in this draft and a franchise point guard already on the roster can afford to take a risk on a high upside center. Hayes is a high-motor, incredibly mobile and athletic center. Still refining his basketball skills, the Texas freshman has great defensive instincts and the physical tools to act on it in an impactful way.
