Combine the 2018 and 2019 draft-top 10

Post#1 » by pipfan » Tue Apr 9, 2019 5:30 pm

Let's say we combined these 2 drafts AT THE TIME OF THE DRAFT. We can't use what we have learned this season-only their status as prospects. Where would all the picks be?

1-Zion no doubt here
2-Ayton he was the top prospect last year-although there were contenders
3-Doncic I think most teams had him slightly higher than Bagley
4-Bagley 2-4 could be interchangeable
5-JJJ Some teams had him in their top 2
6/7 Young/Morant we'll have to see how Morant's interviews/workouts go
8-Bamba last June his ratings were all over the place
9-Carter Bulls fan here, so happy we got him
10-Barret squeaks into the top 10 due to the drop off last year from 7 to 8

Among Knox, Sexton, Bridges, Bridges and Culver, Garland last year's guys had higher ratings

Conclusion-last draft was deep, this draft is weak

Wow the Zion hype is out of control. So he’s expected to have more impact than all the rookies in this exceptional current class? I’ll believe it when I see it.

Its not always about first year impact. His long term projection is infinitely more promising than everyone else.

maybe, just maybe, instead of doubting his hype blindly, you should, you know, actually watch some of his games and look at some of the detailed scouting reports on him that are available on numerous draft sites. so you actually know what you're talking about? crazy, i know

I’ve watched some games. The one against NC earlier in the season and the last few he played in during the tournament. I felt the Barrett kid looked better on his own team and was more impressed w/ Trae Young last season in college. I am just not seeing anything special outside of a much bigger/heavier dude barreling over smaller guys and dunking. He also looks chubby.

Plus the team itself wasn’t even that good but people on here post things like they could beat the Cavs and stuff like that. Smh.

I remember watching Melo and AD in college and being blown away w/ their potential and skill. Just not seeing that same thing here but people are talking like he’s the second coming.

Zion is cool and all but lets not forget that he cant shoot and has a standing reach of a SG/SF. Not the greatest combination of skills. His body mass might be an advantage as well as an disadvantage. If he was 220 pounds instead of 270 would we really be that impressed with him?

That type of stuff invites people to make fun of Mitch and take your views with a grain of salt if they involve Knick players (Trier too)

lol why? Mitch is that good, it doesn't matter if he's a Knicks fan.

Of course it matters, only a Knicks fan would have him remotely that high. I’d take Bagley over the Knicks team, for instance

Why in the heck would it, when Mitch is swing BOTH Rookie AND regular NBA record after record in a VERY short playing timespan?! :-?

I welcome anyone who wants to debate it rationally & reasonably. :D

nah, i don't see it. I live in New York and watch the team frequently, Mitch is a beast. i don't blame you if you don't watch them often, or at all, but he's pretty much the bright spot on that team. and, it's not really fair to claim a conflict of interest for knicks fans having him that high, when you start mentioning Bagley, who hasn't been a top 5 rookie in this class in my estimation.

Seems like the top 5 would be:

1. Zion
2. Luka
3/4 Trae/Ja
5 JJJ

Could see JJJ going higher but can't see anyone else who should be considered for the top 5.

Also lukewarm take: Zion won't be the best player from these 2 drafts. In fact I don't think he'll be a top 3 player from these 2 drafts.

why, if you don't mind me asking? :) I respect your basketball acumen as a poster (as i do most mods), so i'm interested to hear your take on Zion.

Aren't people reading the OP? We can't take into consideration what the 2018 class did in the NBA this year. Most people didn't even bother to answer the question. It's in the 1st and 2nd sentence.

I'm not an expert, but it would look close to something like this :

1- Zion
2- Ayton
3- Bagley
4- Doncic
5- JJJ
6-7 Morant-Barrett
8- Bamba
9-10 Trae - Culver or WCJ or Hunter? (I think WCJ was ranked ahead of Trae in most mock drafts. But then it depends of the teams drafting.)
