It inherently has to taint his legacy, the question is how much as he wasn't there for the whole duration of the inevitable continuation of LAL's downward spiral.

The problem here is and was the myth that everything Magic Johnson touches turns to gold. He did not at any point know what he was doing in this job. He got it because of his name and nothing else. This “Magic is successful” rant in LA is a myth. He has some Starbucks and Fatburgers, fine. Any of us could rock that if we had some cash. But what has he done in sports? Nothing. He was a terrible coach and had no cred at all when he got this “president” job. To me, as a local, this was exactly how I thought this would play out. The man is a smile and a gimmick on the managerial side. He seems like a great guy, a fighter, a good father, and an incredible role modle for the HIV community (although you’d think he would do more there). But nothing he has ever done would make any rational, intelligent person say “let’s let this guy run a professional sports team.” Nothing. This was a mistake waiting to happen.
