Re: Shams: Magic Johnson steps down as Lakers President of Basketball Operations
Magic thought he'd sign Lebron then another superstar or two would eagerly follow which would result in them winning a bunch of games that he would get to sit back and take credit for. He never had any intention of doing the actual heavy lifting involved in being an NBA GM. Once his plan to do virtually nothing and win a lot of games didn't work out he decided to hit the pavement and go back on to living on the legacy of what he achieved 30 years ago.

Someone get their man's here and check to see if this man has dementia. Lonzo a better defender than D-Lo but D-Lo is above and beyond better all around player.

Re: Shams: Magic Johnson steps down as Lakers President of Basketball Operations
Random Question - what happens to the rest of Magic Johnson's salary related to being the President? Since he resigns - does he basically walk away from the contract and not get paid I assume?

It's got to be LeBron's people...LeBron hasn't made any comment on social media.

Very damaging day in Lakerland today. All he had to do was tell Jeannie in private that he's stepping down and Jeannie then makes a statement to the media and that's it. No press conferences, no nothing was needed. This was wild and unprofessional

The Lakers are just a disaster of a franchise.
I wonder if Laker fans are starting to miss Jim and Mitch?

Yep. The pressure to fire Luke, and the behind the scenes tension with Klutch. I think Magic is caught between wanting to please Lebron's people and also Jeannie. Still a weak move to resign at this moment.

Why? 2 years ago LA had bad contracts and no Lebron.

Some of you guys are ridiculous for ripping Magic's decision. I totally get what he's going through and his thought process to come to this decision. You can see how relieved he is and happy to be "free" as he said. I just feel like he realized he doesn't need the stress that comes with being the President of the Lakers, the attention, the strain, the pressure, etc. You can also tell this is a decision he's been pondering for some time now. This was tough for him - and I give him a ton of credit for taking that leap and doing what he feels is best for him and his future.

Wade is retiring he's probably on his way to him.
What do you want him to say?
What makes you think he is the reason for what is going on?
Why cant we hold people accountable for their actions Lebron or Magic.

Nobody is ripping his decision..It's how he did it..how hard is it to get that? You dont exit a franchise like this. So bad. Have a meeting with Jeanie tell her you dont want this anymore and thats that! But Magic Johnson is a brand that is fit for the Camera. He wouldn't have it any other way.

It sounds to me like Magic wanted his own choice in as GM and coach, but lebron and Jeanie probably wanted someone else, too bad now lebron gets to be GM too, along with diva, actor... can't say magic doesn't have a flair for the dramatics when it comes to announcements

It has to be Rob, no one else was or should’ve been in a position to do any “backstabbing”. Klutch is an agency looking out for the best interests of its clients, the Lakers best interests are never their priority. You can’t be backstabbed by an agency when you already know they don’t share your best interests.
The only party in a position to be expected to have the Lakers best interests as their top priority is Rob. There’s a reason he didn’t get mentioned today by Magic.

You are right thinking about it more it could be Pelinka. There is some serious game of thrones type stuff going on with the Lakers right now I created a thread to discuss the possibilities rather then cluttering up this one

Public disappearance - a classic Magic trick.
From the basketball's perspective, travel is a nice pause from being pounded to the floor.

Haha, I called it on the day he got the job. I actually gave him 3 years before he is either fired or quits by himself. They guy is just incompetent when it comes to business of basketball. Simple as that.

Klutch is Lebron's camp. We've seen reports all season long about Luke and how they wanted him gone. We all saw AD and Klutch screwed over NO. Reporters have talked about how defensive Rich Paul got when people expected Lebron to come back after 3 weeks, which then became 5 weeks.....I don't know, there seems to be a clear pattern.
Simply put, I don't think Magic resigns if his relationship with Lebron is good. Not after recruiting him just this past offseason and with an open max slot.
