Ah well. I'll accept a Jays L against Boston in exchange for a Leafs playoff win over Boston lol.

End the Brito experiment. He sucks! Drury can join him too.

Trading Pillar and using that as a way to get a look at Brito instead of Alford is pretty much a sign that Atkins is on some Sam Hinkie ish this year. Montoyo helping matters by making Gibby look like Kevin Cash by comparison with his managing.
Can’t wait until some real prospects come up. Jansen will turn things around and Tellez is showing promise. Gurriel is probably an outfielder parading as an infielder but potential is there for him to turn it around. Everyone else is a placeholder.

This is a Sam Hinkie ish year from the get go.
The main dish for the 2019 season is the development of Alford, Bichette, Biggio and Guerrero Jr..
it is kinda clear, the team will gradually transition to the next generation.
Galvis is a present surprise, a defensive shortstop that can hit is really valuable, we should keep him and move Bichette to 2B.
Biggio can take 3B or LF. SP depth will be a problem is we decided to trade away Stroman and Sanchez.
I wish the Bluejays continue to suck, so our prospects will have a clear path to get a callup during the season.

This is the next test for the Jays management - they have pushed out most of the vets that came during AA's time, or - like Morales - were marginal and blocking young players. Now they have to make decisions on younger players they acquired in exchange for veterans, i.e. they have to write off some ineffectual talent, and explain why they got so little for players that are useable if (in the big picture) largely immaterial to the rebuilding, like Pillar. I'm thinking Brito, Hansen, McKinney, even Teoscar. That's four guys with limitations in their game that will always be there. Surely, we are no worse off with Alford and Biggio. With Bichette, I get that he's younger, but Alford and Biggio are age-wise appropriate for promotion by mid-May or June, should they sustain their early-season run with BUF. I don't see why Brito should hang around much longer, his weakness is the most pronounced - every team in baseball has the book on him, which makes him the first DFA or option candidate.

This isn't the NBA. In the NBA, you can suck really badly and get a clear draft reward. A top 10 pick in baseball is still a maybe, a little better to have if you are good at scouting and can land a Carlos Correa, Alex Bregman, in successive drafts, but you can also end up where the Jays did when they drafted Jeff Hoffman and Max Pentecost 9 and 11 in the same draft. Whether the Jays are a 65-win, 70-win or 80 win team will have little bearing on when players like Bichette, Biggio etc get to the bigs - that's more on them than anything happening on the major league roster barring the unexpected breakout of a McKinney or Drury.

Why can't we be like Tampa? Jays are on pace to win 49 games and lose 113 games. Winning percentage of 30.77%. Depressing times to be a Blue Jays fan. There is some light at the end of the tunnel however. Vladi, Bo, and Biggio can't get here any faster.

Galvis is already 29. Doesn't he make more sense as a trading asset come deadline if he continues his form?

Yeah, Galvis is most definitely not someone we should be planning to build around after two weeks. He's 29 and his career numbers prior to this season (a .240/.290/.374 line in over 3000 PAs) are pretty damned bad; the odds that he's suddenly a reliable offensive star are fairly low.

Re: Jays vs Red Sox - April 9&11
I mean, Brito likely does just suck. But keep in mind that (while it was in the PCL in Brito's case), he and Alford put up these lines in AAA last season:
Brito: .318/.383/.540, 21.7% K rate.
Alford: .238/.314/.339, 27.1% K rate.
Alford's the better prospect, though he has lost some of his sheen, but we have to stop yo-yoing him. He needs to prove that he can be a sustainable hitter in AAA, and then we need to call him up with a view to that call-up being permanent. This is his final option year; it needs to stick.

Alford's season last year was hampered by like 5 injuries, though. Including, imo, not being back to full strength following the hamate injury the year before.

Absolutely, but people are acting like we're holding him back. He's gotta demonstrate that he can hit/not strike out at a terrifyingly high rate in AAA before we can think about making him a major league regular.

Yes, it is different from the NBA. But the idea is the same: homegrown youth movement. Generally speaking, NBA teams does not care much about developing young player over the season. It more of drafting a young stud and hoping him become a star instantly. Tanking for draft pick doesn’t work in MLB, because every young player needs some kind of work in the minor, development is the key.
If a team is winning and try to compete for the record like last year with average veterans for example, Smoak and Morales, you won’t see a Tellez call up. He will stuck in AAA. This year we are not trying to win. So it is a bit Hinke ish.
I prefer promoting the youngsters the mid season when they’re locked-in. When they are locked-in in AAA, do you wish there is someone blocking their position in the major?
I am against rushing the young players to the major. Osuna succeeded, but Castro and Pompey failed badly. We handled Alford horrendously last year. He wasn’t ready when he got the promotion.

That Tampa-bay team which traded away their face of franchise who signed a team friendly contract in his prime and DFAed one of the top WAR preformer in the same offseason?
I am pretty sure some of us can’t handle that type of front office. But yeah, they are one of the most forwards-thinking and really well-run organization with extreme limited resources.

Yeah, Tampa's model is ruthless, but there's no question they're good at what they do. The advantage they have (but wish they didn't have) is that they can make the sorts of moves that most orgs recognize as being beneficial, but which would be deeply unpopular. Tampa basically has no fanbase, so they can swing those trades without any real backlash.

Exactly. Alford's major league line to date has been Brito-esque.
I'm much higher on Alford than Brito, but Alford should rake in AAA for a month or two before getting the call.
One thing is certain though - this team will be a lot more entertaining to watch once Vlad, Bichette, Biggio and Alford join the big club. Let's hope Bichette and Alford have a great first half of the season and force their way onto the club by July.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."
