Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
I do suspect that picking at #9 (or later) pushes us past Jaxson Hayes, De'Andre Hunter territory and into late lottery talents like Brandon Clarke, Nas Little, Sekou Doumbouya.
I do believe we can get an above average starter form this tier of the draft, but I wouldn't be surprised to see us trade back into the mid teens, either. Maybe some team really values Coby White or Darius Garland and is willing to toss in a future 2nd rounder and/or pick swap to jump up a couple of spots.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
The StepbackSekou Doumbouya | F | Limoges
The Hawks would probably be thrilled to shore up their depth at forward by drafting Doumbouya...It’s basically the only weak point on their roster right now.
At point guard, the Hawks have a generational shooting/passing combination who plays with joy and confidence that will push him a long way — that’s Trae Young. Their long-term wing starter alongside Young is a big, smooth playmaker whose nickname is Red Velvet, also known as Kevin Huerter. At the big spots, John Collins may not be a traditional center but he checks all the boxes for what you want on offense from a big man in today’s NBA.
What he needs are versatile forwards around him who can defend bigger players, help protect the rim and feed him on offense. Doumbouya is a great answer to those problems. He’s not going to be the power forward who slides Collins full-time to center on defense, but Doumbouya brings great size as a ripe 18-year-old. He is also incredibly filled out and strong on the interior despite his age and inexperience.
Doumbouya is really the whole package. The challenge for a coaching staff like Atlanta’s will be to sort out what his ultimate value and role is in the NBA. What the Hawks need (team defense and shooting) may not be what Doumbouya is immediately best at, but the opportunity to bring someone with as high a ceiling as Doumbouya seems to have is valuable, particularly when he’s at a position of need.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
Now that it looks like the Hawks Second 1st Round Draft Pick (Hopefully, The Mavericks won’t sneak into one of the top 4 Picks in Lotto Night!) will be either 9 or 10 I am just curious to see who other Hawks Fans top 10 HAWK Draft Prospects for the Hawks are. I am by no means an expert (Actually, Just the opposite!) but here are my top 10 and I am still holding out hope that the Hawks get lucky on Lotto night and win the Zion Williamson sweepstakes!):
1) Zion Williamson (Of Couse!)
2) R.J. Barrett
3) DeAndre Hunter (Safe Pick but maybe too high?)
4) Coby White (Combo Guard)
5) Jarrett Culver (Disappointing Title Game but still
think he will be a good NBA Player)
6) Jaxson Hayes (Good Size/Athlete)
7) Cameron Redish (Have to think he is better than he
played this past season for Duke!)
8) Bol Bol (If Healthy I think he could be Special and a
Real Steal!)!
9) Bruno Fernando
10) Rui Hachimura (A very good player and an
International Marketing Opportunity!)!
I intentionally did not put Ja Morant on the list even though I do think he is a top 3 player in this Draft due to the fact I don’t think the Hawks will Draft a PG this high since they already have a pretty good PG in Trae Young! If Morant is still available when the Hawks Pick (And, That would mean the Bingo Balls were Very Kind to the Hawks!) I think the Hawks would trade that pick since I think they would be getting a lot of very generous offers!

At #9, he is an option which is why I like 9. Its not an overdraft range

I think with our pick is between Hunter and Reddish... If we do not move up and have chance on Zion or Barrett
With Dallas pick I think is Hayes, Bol or Doumbouya.
Is intriguing for me the 2nd round pick, I think we may have a shot at players like Kabengele, Gafford, Bassey, Thybulle, Herro, Tre Jones, Carsen Edwards.... I think there are some rotation role players there, we could find a big and a backup PG.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
Reddish and whoever the Hawks want at #9 works for me.
Reddish is the only critical prospect for me. He can shoot it from Trae and Kevin range and can shoot with volume like Trae on top of that, defend better than Kevin. For our system and offense, that's critical. The geometry of the court is everything since we don't have great length and size.

I’m on board with this right now but I’m sure I will have some favs for #9 soon enough. But gimme Cam for our pick if it’s not Zion at 1.

I don't think a lot of posters realize how critical it is to have another space grabber with Trae and Kev.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
If Hawks pick 1st, Zion. 2nd, RJ. 3rd on back, Cam. Then take the best still on the board at 9th of the group of Hunter, Culver, Rui, Hayes, Fernando, Sekou, Langford, White, etc. none of which are reaches at that spot.

Rui also brings Japan!

We can’t forget that Brandon Clarke is in the range at 9 as well and might fit well running oops with Trae..or Hayes also oop city. I do love the intense rugged D of the former San Jose State baller as well.
Clarke, Hayes, Rui, Bol
A few prospects will fall in our lap at 9. We will have plenty of options.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
Billy Knight is on the phone..
He wants us to draft DeAndre Hunter because he’s a 6’7” 225 pound small forward. He says he wants to draft small forwards only. Just 5 dudes who are all about 6’7”-6’9” small forwards.
He was on the right track, just didn’t execute the plan with the right staff and players in place.
Maybe he wasn’t tho..

I kinda liked Clarke at first, but now I think he's just way to undersized to be trying to put next to Collins. His big game against Baylor was more about Baylor having absolutely zero presence inside.
With the slide in the Mavs pick, I'm more open to Bol Bol, but I really question his work ethic and potential to be injury prone.

Ya I wasn’t on the Bol wagon but now that we slipped from 7 to 9, he starts making more sense. Although I still don’t like big men that are build like him..lotta stress on his feet. I want durability in our draft pick, as Trae showed this year playing 81 and essentially 82 if needed.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
The foot injury pushed me away from Bol Bol but the value could be there at 9. I wouldn't mind taking him there for his ceiling alone.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
I* see this kid in the mold of OJ Mayo, Zach Lavine, Shabazz Muhammed. Guys who can light up a scoreboard, but can't do much else.
Poor defense, limited play making, but an above average scorer. in a modest draft like this one, is there any value in that at #9 or later?

Great question, new guy.
Relevant follow up question -- is it worth moving Kevin Huerter out of the 2-guard spot to find out?
I'm...unsure of either answer.
