I would probably role with Ja over Jrue but it would be a close call for me. I still think we're more than a player away so would rather take Ja's upside. His numbers are tremendous and I am far less concerned with the conference he plays in. Plenty of the best PGs in this league played in terrible conferences (Curry, Lillard, etc.), and Ja is an elite athlete even by NBA standards, and his vision is the best to come out in awhile aside from Trae Young.
That said, I am still hoping we get Zion and go after Kemba or Tyus Jones or someone else to fill the whole at the 1.

Im tired of suns fans and reporters assuming they know whats going on in the front office, dreaming up some "well this dun sound liak sumthin survar would do - heeuck" scenario and then speaking it into existence. T.J. walking boo boo said he didn't feel mentally or physically ready to come back. They didnt sit him to save 250k, in fact...he sat and made 3 millon + dollars...theres your bonus, try again next year buddy.
There were so many goddang madeup hearsay stories out there this year it was disgusting.

Picks 1 or 2, we keep. Zion and Ja have too much potential.
Pick 3 is iffy... I'm OK keeping it. It seems pick #3 is always the magical pick that develops into a superstar. And Barett looks pretty darn good.
Pick 4 or less and I'll be PISSED if we keep it. Pick 4 or less should be packaged for the best PG available and I'm willing to include JJ, Bumpy, and the bucks pick to make it happen. Jrue would be nice. A Kemba sign and trade would be cool too. I'd even "throw in" or "substitute" TJ and a future 1st if we could land someone like Lillard or Irving.
Option 1: "Keep the core young"
Morant/Bumpy/Okobo
Booker/Bridges
Oubre/JJ
TJ/Free Agent
Ayton/Holmes
Option 2: "We got stuck with pick 4-7 and traded it"
Jrue/Free agent/Okobo

How crazy would it be for tradition to continue and see the Hornets jump up to snag their hometown hero. The NBA still owes MJ and sending him Zion to pair with Kemba might be a gift long overdue.
If the Hornets win, I'm going to be very suspicious. #tinfoilhat

The Sixers and Nets matchup is a pretty interesting case of talent vs. team construction. Sixers have a clear talent advantage, but there's only one ball and everyone on that team outside of JJ is at their best when it's in their hands. Nets don't have the same level of players, but they have a balanced roster with playmakers, shooters, and solid defensive anchors that play off each other well. Sixers should still be able to pull it out, although Embiid wasn't looking like himself.

Here's the other thing with Ja--he has improved tremendously in just 1 year. He was rightfully not on anybody's radar last season. 2 star recruit. He very clearly worked on his game a ton to improve. Hopefully that continues in the NBA after he gets the big pay checks, but you can tell he works crazy hard. For all the talk of his competition, he didn't dominate that level last year. This year he was clearly the top guy and an All-American caliber dude.

Van Vleet would be a solid starting PG. Only under contract for a year but the suns would have his bird rights next summer so could go over the cap to keep him.

I would love to get Van Vleet but I would prefer to trade Josh Jackson + Mil pick for him.

That works too. Figured Toronto would prefer TJ if they still try to win next year.Saberestar wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:If Leonard leaves Toronto but they still want to compete I wonder if they would do a Warren for Van Vleet deal. TJ would slot in at the 3 and make up for scoring lost by kawhi.

Having players who can contribute without the ball is such an underrated thing by most fans.darealjuice wrote:The Sixers and Nets matchup is a pretty interesting case of talent vs. team construction. Their depth was key. Brooklyn's starters got outplayed, but their bench killed it. LeVert, Dinwiddie, and Davis were all solid.

Overreactions after one loss on twitter are crazy. I already see Suns bloggers talking about the Sixers blowing it up, talking about us trading for Ben Simmons, talking about Brett Brown being fired, etc.

Oh yeah there's always crazy game 1 overreactions. But there are a bunch of Philly fans who don't like Brown and I do think he's stubborn in not running enough pick and roll.. coach the talent you have even if it's against your principles.bwgood77 wrote:Overreactions after one loss on twitter are crazy. The Simmons thing is interesting in that I've never thought him and embiid are a great fit together. Simmions would be best utilized in a super run and gun system with all shooters around him. Basically the Giannis role but more running.

Feels like Ed Davis is always under appreciated. They got him on a 1yr 4 mil deal this past summer.bwgood77 wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:Having players who can contribute without the ball is such an underrated thing by most fans.darealjuice wrote:The Sixers and Nets matchup is a pretty interesting case of talent vs. team construction. My thing with Ja or any rookie PG is time. The Suns have missed the playoffs for 9 years. Booker, Warren, Oubre, Johnson are entering good years. The Suns I think need somebody that can help them the next two years. That might be short sighted but I just want somebody who knows how to play and win in the NBA. Not somebody who might be good in 3 years.

Anybody wants Lowry?
Maybe someone create separate thread for playoffs and keep this one for Suns related talk?

Like it or not, we are not making the playoffs in the West this upcoming season even if we add Kemba. We'd need to add a legit star and a 2nd really damn good player to get close to that.

Van Vleet's a good player but frankly he is a bottom-tier starter. We do need a PG but I'd rather not trade something for somebody that we will have to continue to loo for upgrades over, particularly when we have the cap space to sign a PG this offseason.
