I’ve been busy this week but wanted to drop a quick bit of hype for ufc 236 tonight. Max is fighting poirier for the 155 interim title and next shot at khabib while Israel Adesanya fights Kelvin Gastelum for the 185 interim title. Those main events are worth the price of admission alone but I think the match-ups on the card are skill sets that lend themselves to exciting match-ups. We tried out anchor for the podcast preview this time around

Style Bender vs Gastelum was incredible. First time I've ever seen Gastelum. Guy has legit power and heart. Style Bender was in trouble a couple times. Dude has such an arsenal though

Gastelum hurt him in the 4th round but instead of throwing more punches, he kept trying takedowns. I never got why he did that.

Dustin vs Holloway was incredible as well. Wow those last two fights were probably the best co-main and main event combination I've ever seen.

Idk where the hell Israel had that 5th round, but wow was it impressive. I was pretty worried about his cardio and how bad he was hurt going into that round. Then he just put on a clinic. Gastelum surprised me though. I wasn't expecting him to be able to tag Israel as much as he did. Great heart shown by both guys there

I've seen more fighters make that mistake too many times. I didn't get it. You didn't get it. Rogan/DC didn't get it.

He did that twice. I was like what the **** are you doing bro. I was very surprised by that cause Gastelum has great hands, great power in those hands, a great chin and a great gas tank.

The whole card was really good from the early prelims to the prelims and the main card. Couple boring ones in there. Like what was Alan Jouban so mad about after getting the loss in that boring azz fight which he just didn't show much offense in at all? You lost bro.

I think all the judges gave him at least a 10-8 in that 5th round and he might have lost without it cause i had rounds 1, 3 and 4 going to Gastelum but obviously the judges had it a little different. Round 3 i could see going either way but i gave it to Gastelum.

Yeah, I definitely think 5 was a 10-8. Going into the 5th it had to have been 2-2 or even possibly 3-1 Gastelum if I were to guess. I was surprised with how long it took Israel to get going and find his range. I was also surprised by how early and often Gastelum was able to close that distance striking. I thought it would be extremely tough for him due to Israel's level of striking and height/reach advantage

Wasn't sure what to expect from Gastelum since I never saw him fight but was kind of expecting a Jones v Cormier type of battle due to their respective sizes and the smaller guy probably having an advantage if it went to the ground (although Jones is no slouch on the ground lol)

Israel had some pretty good takedown defense. Him vs Whitaker will be interesting. Definitely not going to want to take shots like he did vs Gastelum. I gained a lot of respect for Gastelum though I look forward to catching his next fight.

Also really happy for Dustin. That was a huge win for him. I wasn't expecting it. The power difference was very clear

Great fight card, I was also watching the great Lomachenko dismantle Crolla on ESPN PPV. Loma is some kind of fighter.

I'm shocked to see how small Max looked at 155 lbs; he's a very tall guy for 145 lbs and I thought he'd fill out to being a big, strong lightweight.

he needs to go back down to featherweight and continue carving out his legacy as the best featherweight fighter in UFC history. He needs a "softer" touch for his fight back since he's been taking on killers on a consistent basis.

Props to Dustin, I didn't think he had it in him (I though his win against Max years back was just a fluke between 2 green fighters.) I don't know how he'll do against Khabib but he definitely has earned his shot given his resume for the past 2 years.

Israel and Kevin was one of the best MMA fights I've ever seen and I started watching this back when it was in tournament format with Gracie dominating back in the mid 90's.

How have you never seen Gastelum fight before? You seem to know a good bit about the UFC and Gastelum has had some great fights and won his season of the Ultimate Fighter.

I didn't think Max looked all that small. I mean Porier was definitely the bigger guy when we're talking width and bigger chest but even Cormier and Joe were saying when the fight started how Max's back looked really wide and it looked like he put the weight on well. If they fought each other again at 155 it wouldn't surprise me one single bit if Max would win the fight and even win it early by knockout. Max is an absolute beast and how easily he beat some of the guys he's beaten since the loss to McGregor is amazing especially both J.Aldo fights and what he did to B.Ortega. Now i know those fights were at featherweight and he went up to lightweight to fight Porier but i just think it's simply that Porier got the best of him and fought a great fight.

So since you've been watching MMA for as long as i have then you probably appreciated the little tribute they did to Rich Franklin after the Roundtree vs Anders fight for him getting inducted into the Hall Of Fame. I was a big Franklin fan and dude had some great wars in the octagon. I was more of a Dan Severn and Don Frye fan back in the day.

Max certainly put up a heck of an effort, but he took an absolute beating. Stay at 145 and fight the Volkanovskis, Zabits, and Moicanos of the world.

Max already had significant concussion issues in the past and last night certainly wasn't good for his health.

I honestly don't know. I try to watch as much as I can, but never seem to be able to watch him. I was going to watch him fight Whitaker (i believe they were set to face off right when Style Bender fought Silva?)

I'll have to check out some clips of him. He was impressive. Has a good body of work and is still young 27 if I remember correctly from last night. He has legit power too and can take some shots holy hell lol
