He recommended that the Knicks bring in Isiah Thomas in 2003.

That's all you need to know.

Just another reminder that having talent /=/ ability to evaluate talent and/or manage assets.

Bird has got to have the most accomplished resume in modern basketball. No one else has a Coach and Executive of the Year.

Edit: Maybe someone else has it but I could have sworn he was the sole owner of a COY and EOY

I know he is the sole owner of MVP, COY, and EOY. Not sure if you take MVP out of the equation though.

I don't really get how the EOY works but how has Pop never won it?

Because RC Buford is the GM. He has won it twice.

If lal had 50 wins and in the playoffs, Magic wouldn't have "quit".

He sucked and did a sucky job. But,,,, if sucking isn't fun then I guess he was partially being honest

err lemme rephrase than.. Bird is the sole owner of MVP, FMVP, COY and EOY.

Right? whatever the case he has both the highest honors for a player and an executive.

Magic and Bird were great rivals as players. As executives... Bird wins by a mile.

God, just imagine what Larry could have done if Indy was a big market/spender.

Magic was stealth fired right? He said he hadn't told Jeanie but she had a twitter response ready in like seconds of his press conference.

But RC reports to pop who's the president which is where I get confused.

You forgot the #1 biggest thing he was wrong about "DLO isn't a leader" 2 years later, DLO leads nets to a playoff win while lakers who sign FA's based on being "leaders" miss the playoffs

Greatness as a player clearly doesn't seem to always translate over to other roles. As a player magic was a brilliant genius on the court. Off the court he's proved to be impatient and say lots of stuff that is ends up being either blatantly wrong, or simply really obvious.

At least he realized early the job was too tough, and didn't completely kill the franchise (like IT did to the Knicks).

What Magic did wrong was not shut his ass up. He made himself look like a fool each and every time he opened his mouth.

Omg that is so original.

Simple nicknames are usually the best. As if Magic is so original :banghead:

Magic was called Tragic Magic in the 1984 Finals.

Game 2
. Failed to get off a game winning attempt.
. Wedman hit the game winner in Magic’s face.

Game 4
. Turned the ball over to Parish at the end of the 4th quarter with the game tied.
. Missed 2 clutch free throws in OT, the game was tied with 35 seconds left.
. Bird hit the game winner in Magic’s face.

Game 7
. 2 turnovers to Dennis Johnson with about 1:30 and 1:00 left in the 4th quarter.

Not defending old Magic, but when he said this: ""Every team that had shooting, they got beat", wasn't he actually referring to trying to put together a shooting team to beat the Warriors? That every OTHER team besides the Warriors who were good shooting teams still got beat by the Warriors.

If he said you can't out shoot the warriors, that might be fair. But why bring up philly and really they are shooters?

Every team that didn’t have good shooting got beat by the Warriors too, so I wasn’t sure what Magic was trying to get at.

My guess is that he was saying trying to out-shoot the Warriors isn't going to work, so instead we are going to try something different. Of course what he meant by "different" was a complete and utter disaster, but at least he did try something different.
