OP probably estimated on what the Knicks got offered for awhile back. if I recalled the Knicks got offered for $5 billion by an unknown source. James Dolan rejected it. Because of that the Lakers got to be at least worth that much based on market and brand alone.

Steve Ballmer, owner of #Clippers only paid $2.1 billion, but he could have afforded $5 billion, cuz he's worth $38 billion, the richest owner in sports. :D

I would imagine she would step aside and or one of the other kids would take over.. Maybe the board removes her and appoints somebody else...

Selling the Lakers comes to one major issue how much can the Lakers ownership demand and get. Does this management desire to continue in the professional basketball business? Lakers' ownership has had a long tenure and it is a very well establish name in the professional basketball world. So the next move is on the Buss family to consider what their next move is not public opinion.

I could see Jeanie taking a leave of absence for "health reasons" and the board appointing a new governor if the Lakers don't markedly improve this season.

-If they strike out on free agents this summer
-If Lebron publicly demands a trade
-If the Lakers are below .500
-If no big trade happens by the deadline

At that point, the Buss family would push her out before Adam Silver "CoAngelizes" the franchise.

If Jeannie steps aside, the next in line is Tim Harris.

Jim Buss would love it if the team got sold. It’s the only way he can get his hands on his money.

Buss family has owned the Laker for 30 million years. Why sell? They are printing money in LA. Buss family more likely take a back seat than to sell.

Knicks were valued at $4 or 5 billion but a big part of that was that they own MSG, which probably generates non-basketball revenues which they do not have to share with the NBA.

Lakers have a great brand but it's not clear if the Buss family derives significant non-basketball revenues. They would if they owned Staples and got a cut of all the non NBA events held there.

Thing is Jeannie seems like a something of a celebrity groupie. Would the stars bother to rub elbows with her if she no longer owned the Lakers? That alone may be a reason she doesn't give up the team.
