"role" is a really big number... I imagine it varies from team to team but all fall within a rough area as the person who overseas all of the basketball operations, from the scouts to the coaches to the training staff the GM and other FO people who work on the basketball ops side of the game.

I think on a team say like the Lakers who are a mess right now that role is going to be very all encompassing where he has to have have his fingers into every cookie jar on the team, being involved with every decision no matter how big or small vs a team like the Spurs where you have quality people in places for eons the president's role may be more of an organizer who just makes sure everyone stays on the same page

I don't think that is really much different than any other director or vice president level person in a standard organization. He has the ultimate responsibility of the team's basketball related performance. He needs to operate within the financials the CFO defined, but apart from some high level guidance (like goals, vision etc...) from the CEO or the board he has free hands to define the means by which he would like to achieve the goals.

I'd see the following key tasks:

-Define the goals for each field. Then break that down to high level tasks, deliverables and milestones for each field: value estimations, market, contract etc for FO; playbook, player roles, schemes for coaching; structure & key elements for player evaluation for scouting. Assigning a deadline to them as a good project plan.

-Establish the structure in which each department can cooperate w/ each other: E.g. how & how often should HC, scouting and GM report about their tasks (e.g.: Coaching: about performance and address help needed, Scouting: list of suggested players; GM: negotiations etc...)

-Setting up KPIs and defining cadence of regular reviews to monitor performance.

If that's true the ideal candidate is a person who has the drive for results and has a determined personality, who has several years of FO experience in several positions (ideally from a well organized team), who is innovative, who is aware of the most moder trends of basketball, who is clever and not short-sighted. Basically the total opposite of what Magic was reported to be :)

I’d offer him a lot of millions to Coach, would want to keep him away from BO decisions. I’ll personally push the wheelchair for him if he would come back to coach for another three years.

I hope it's not Lawrence Frank... but hell even that would be better than Rambis/Pelinka imo

c'mon down Bob Meyers or Jerry West please.

Here’s the video:

My first thought is that it would mean all the local reporters have not only missed this, but have been wrong in saying Rob is ascending in power.

It would mean the other team gave permission, negotiations between Lakers and person occurred, negotiations between Lakers and the other team occurred for compensation, and not a single whisper leaked.

I don’t believe it to have an ounce of truth.

Bob Myers makes sense if it is being done through back channels they have enough noise there shady with Durant and his future bring everyday discussion. The Timberwolves got permission to meet with Michael Winger. It would absolutely deflate a franchise like okc if they find out the Lakers sought permission to interview Presti. Likewise with Toronto and Ujiri.

I do agree that it's hard to believe Cowherd got that scoop before any other plugged in reporter like Shams, Woj or Ramona.

In a way though it makes sense that Cowherd got it first... It could mean that with Magic gone, the leaks stopped.
The info Cowherd has is coming from the other side for once...

Jeanie only seemed to leak when it helped her... But since Magic came in, this place has been an open book.

I will say that if the info is true, and it happened so quickly and quietly, it almost has to be Jerry West. I'm not sure they'd even need approval to talk to him, unlike guys like Presti, Myers, etc...

Arash Markazi went on the Cowherd show and apparently confirmed the story; someone currently on a playoff team would get the #1 front office spot

I'm thinking Jerry West Pobo, Rambis VP, Pelinka GM...

And I'm happy with that..

Myers would be better given ages, but remember... Jerry West was a big reason Myers is Myers...

And at his Age, we need a couple younger guys running around doing the stuff he doesn't need to, to free him up for Org building, so Rambis and Pelinka can help with that...

Also remember... West and Mitch had been grooming Kurt Rambis to be the next GM of the Lakers before West left.

I don't think it's Jerry West if clippers didn't have any problem letting Winger interview for jobs, it would make less sense to keep it secret with west who is more of a consultant.

All in on Jerry... the rest of the ship would get sorted in short order for the long term if he had full control

Ramona on 710 very adamant she doesn’t believe there’s anything to this rumor and everything she’s hearing is that the front office is just going to be Rob.

Who was it a few years back who said he'd only take the job if it was kept a complete secret... Not sure if it was with us or someone else.
Maybe why Ramona doesn't know about it or is denying it...

Not going to lie... I want the Mystery Consultant theory to be true so bad, Imma grasp at every last straw...
