But tbh I kinda foresaw him not being as effective because of the Sixers’ length and athleticism.
Caris and Dinwiddie can still get into the paint and to the basket because of their great first step and athletic ability. Aside from his height, DLo really doesn’t have a way to physically impose himself on the defense. His overall impact is mainly dictated by his ability to make shots; if he’s not making shots at a respectable clip, his impact will be limited. The Sixers have long defenders who can stay with DLo on the drive but also get a hand in his face to impede his shots better than most other teams.
Another benefit of making the playoffs is that it gives us a better look at our guys against better competition in a series. Obviously, I want DLo to find a way and over come it, but if he doesn’t, I do wonder if raises the collective eyebrow of management even a little bit.
No it doesn't, because management isn't kneejerk like the fans on this board are. Only yall somehow think that Russell is going to be thrown in the trash based on the outcome of this series instead of taking the entire collective body of work into consideration. Its funny how this kind of talk starts up always after a bad loss. When Russell was torching Philly in the 3rd of game 1, and closed them out in the 4th, it was crickets.
Asking whether his performance “raising a collective eyebrow of management a little bit” is tantamount to him being “thrown in the trash”?
I don’t even know to respond to this.
I’m tired of so much what people said being taken to the extreme. No one said anything close to that and yet somehow it’s misconstrued into hidden agendas and hatred for DLo. I don’t how anything of what has been said can be interpreted as such.
If you want people to clarify a point so you have a better understanding of what they’re trying to say, then ask for it. Unless it’s crystal clear, stop assuming things that weren’t said.
It’s so hard to have long, civil conversations especially after losses, because those who espouse a particular viewpoint can’t restrain themselves from attacking those who don’t share the same views. It’s ridiculous.
Do I think management is clutching ownership’s purse strings and has team accountants constantly re-evaluating how much they want to offer DLo after every miss or make, or even bad game? No, of course not.
If it does appear that Russell struggles with the length of the Sixers, do I think the coaching staff/management will at least think about ways to address it going forward considering that (assuming health) we should be playoff foes for years to come? Yes.
I was probably the first person in Game 1 to say that Russell needs to have a 2nd ballhandler playing alongside him because when the Sixers see that he’s the only on the ball threat, they key on him and make it very difficult for him to get clean looks.
It's hard to really analyze DLO when you consider everything into perspective especially what he represent for this team. He is taking on the hard task of being the face of the franchise but his talent level is questionable to the point where you ask if he is your leader is he capable of bringing this team into perennial success? What's even more puzzling is that in order for everyone to play well, he needs a high USG% in order for him to play at a high level. At the situation we are in at this moment it's passable considering that all of our top players are in a similar talent level. However, the problem lingers at the hypothetical moment we get a top tier talent to pair next to him where that X player will need the same amount of possessions DLO needs in order to play at their optimum peak. I've been watching the GSW series after the Nets game and I always caught myself comparing Steph to DLO and All I can think of is Steph blows him out of the water. Yes, I understand DLO is 23 and steph is 30 which skill level wise it's understandable. However, the real difference between both players are how much quicker steph react and makes a more efficient decision using his talent. This thought process is what makes me question him continuing as the face of our franchise.
At the end of the day it's not like I'll make the decision of what will happen with our players. I'm just glad Marks are in the game watching our guys play. I trust him and he'll make the optimal decision for us going forward.
